Im gonna say XP for certain, as it's the OS I used to learn Windows and had the easiest time managing overall. 7 and 10 are both close, though, if for familiarity than nothing else.

But **** Vista. I just remember it being an absolute nightmare to use and I'm not shocked at all that it wasn't even included in the poll. I had a laptop that came with it and I ended up uninstalling it and putting on XP instead because it made me want to chuck it out a window.

My computer just told me there's going to be a new Edge. Thus, a related question... what is the best Microsoft Browser? I'm going to go with IE 11? I think it was 11, Edge is shit... IE 6 was somehow so ubiquitous people were using it to condemn newer versions of IE that were invariably better than whatever the anti-IE listicle you were reading suggested using instead (for the end user... apparently IE was annoying for developers, but I wonder if that was more their fault for not getting with what people were using).

Edge sucks.

Favourite would be 7, though I have yet to experience 10. Seeing the poll I am scared to upgrade. 8 was meh. (Where did 9 go?)

My very first PC had Vista, and lots of people my age weren't happy with the OS. I can't remember why.

Windows Vista, in 2007, wasn't very good. It was too resource intensive for most hardware upgrading from Windows XP, and it didn't have good driver support. The service packs and the march of time fixed this; by 2011 Windows Vista was a stable OS with relatively modest sysreqs, but by the time Vista was starting to turn around the damage was done and Windows 7 was on its way, incorporating the SPs and a taskbar tweak to become the most beloved version of Windows even nowadays.

IE 6 only sucked for developers since it became outdated with regards to newer web technologies. And many a system/network administrator had it installed on office computers. Where they tend to stick around with a certain major version of a software product until it is absolutely necessary to upgrade.

I've only used Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Windows XP was on the old family desktop and it worked fine although eventually around 2012 the desktop in question became unworkable. Still a pretty well-designed system.

Windows 7 was on the laptops I used for the next 6 or so years and my mum still uses it - it was a very well-designed operating system and although I eventually updated my old HP laptop in 2018 as I felt it was getting kinda outdated I really liked using it.

Windows 10 is what I use now and I really like it - that HP laptop I mentioned was able to run it fine, even with updates from this year, although things were a bit slow to update, despite coming out in 2011 - the fact that a laptop from the start of last decade was largely OK running systems from now is pretty impressive.

I voted for Windows 10 on the poll but I think all three are very good systems although XP is definitely a product of its time.

Windows 10 for best, Vista for worst.

I am using Windows 10 and it's so far so good. Vista is just bad.

Windows XP was the best Windows. probably because back when i used it, i was too young to really have any awareness of its shortcomings. Windows 8 was absolutely dreadful. Windows 10 is usable, just barely. Windows 7, the one i actually use, is ok. i'm pretty sure i initially hated it though, back when we "upgraded" from XP.

Tell me about it. In some backwater departments of my work they were still using end-of-life OS and other software until very recently. I know that some of those computers were just disconnected from the network but continued being used. Whether that is still the case I have no idea, as there was a recent drive to get everything up to the same standard.

XP and 7 Pro/Ultimate were solid performers, Vista sucked balls, Win 8 and 8.1 utter bovine excrement, that OS should had never seen the light of day.
Win10 Pro is pretty good and I have no real complaints so far.

Indeed. It was so monumentally terrrible that sometimes I forget that it was a real OS and not some weird phone release.
