My favourite thing about XP was all its "themes". It had a forest theme, an underwater theme... Good stuff.

Mine was the games on it; especially Encarta (every school had it, since Windows 7 was still very much rare here).

Windows 7 was the best for me overall. Windows 10 is almost a worthy successor to it, but does have some problems where it is just not as great as it could be. It is easier to run older games and emulators (for stuff that is super old) on Windows 7, than is the case with anything Windows 8 onwards. Windows 8 was my least favorite but I can say that it was better than Windows Vista overall.

Windows 10 is basically a much better version of Windows 8, but still imperfect. Much like how Windows 7 is simply an improved version of Windows Vista.

There are some things to like about Windows 10, but it also has things about it I don't like. System Restore doesn't work well on 10 in my experience compared to 7. I rely more on frequent back ups with the free edition of Macrium Reflect now if I need to do any restores to undo a bad change.

Windows Vista sucks ass. I would rather download a computer virus than Windows Vista, and if I had to make a list of the worst inventions of all time, it would be higher up on the list than nuclear weapons. Vista is a crime against humanity. Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves.

It was incredibly clunky, the security they were trying to implement was difficult to work with and slowed the system and applications down.

I grew up with Windows XP and Windows 7, I'm partial to both in terms of Windows systems. Windows 10 has almost murdered me financially this year, it's the most unusable, unintuitive, ugly, and poorly designed OS I've ever seen. Two separate glitches in Windows 10 massacred 2 Lenovo laptops of mine within 4 weeks. Thankfully, I was able to return both in time for a full refund, but until Windows 10 is off PCs, I'll never purchase one.

3.1, 95, XP, 7 are boss.

10 is okay for the office, but I prefer my personal computer to not have to be tied into the cloud and to HAVE GODDAMN SOLITAIRE AND MINESWEEPER INSTALLED ON IT!!!

7 was probably the objective best due to XP's security flaws, but i'm personally partial to the latter simply due to nostalgia. the worst ones are me, 8 (not 8.1), and 10.

i don't use windows on bare metal anymore; due to how terrible 10 is, i've switched to linux with a windows VM for the few applications i need to use that don't have linux support

re the vista criticism here:
the popular image of vista as slow is less to do with the os itself and more to do with its marketing. aero was a more graphically intensive ui than hardware at the time was designed for and vista was therefore more suitable for higher-end machines, but computer companies ignored this and marketed computers which were very much not vista-ready as such. people would then buy low-end machines marketed as vista-ready with the expectation that they would readily handle aero, which they often couldn't. therefore people chalked that up to vista being inherently slow when in reality it was just more that their computers couldn't handle it.

Exactly! Just let me store stuff on my computer without putting a copy out there on the Internet or otherwise making me use it when I don't want to! I also think Windows 8 and newer versions are ugly compared to the earlier versions. Hello, big blocks of bland "modern" colour!

I like Windows 10, personally.

My least favorite version is easily Windows 8. I have no idea what they were thinking when they were making that.

Windows 7 was my favorite version because it was modern and before Microsoft really started advertising its products all over the OS. On the other hand, Vista was the worst. I can't point out any one reason why I disliked it, but I did. Maybe it was that paperclip.

Since you are a mainframe, one thing it was spectacular at was running multiple mainframe sessions at the time. Particularly IBM 3270 sessions, it was a boon for the coders.
