Former King of Spain flees Spain

The former King of Spain has left Spain in a hurry after scandals which involved money laundering and tax evasion. He formally abdicated in 2014 in favor of his son also due to problems he got involved in. But the current problems are so serious that he left Spain and is now in the Dominican Republic at a luxury home it seems he owns there. Some say he helped bring democracy to Spain while others say he was hand picked by the Spanish dictator without any public referendum. Some in Spain have pointed out that he and the royal family in general have over the years been protected by the press. That any inappropriate thing the royals did was not reported on. While on the other hand they have glorified the royals. So what should Spain do now. I think its time to get rid of the monarchy. Spain has outgrown it.

Bring down the monarchy, once and for all. He may not be the king any more, but it is time we moved beyond long useless institutions.

Despite being a supporting of constitutional monarchies in general, Juan Carlos strikes me as pretty shady.

And, really, there should be a King of Spain. The world would be less interesting if there wasn't. I suppose, if the Spanish people decide to get rid of the monarchy, the family could fall back on one of their other titles, like, say, King of Jerusalem.

Fun fact, Spain is one of the countries that a claim to the title of Roman Emperor should it happen again. It won't, but they have the legal claim since it's passed on through will.

I'm sure that won't upset an incredibly stable and friendly situation wherever this "Jerusalem" is.

Not to mention the Dutch would need to change their anthem if there is no Spanish king. Which would get it removed from the Guiness book of records and make everybody sad.

I think its even funnier for a national anthem to pledge it's loyalty to a foreign monarch of a country that got rid of it.

The King in Spain leaves mainly in a plane?

Would it be better to use 'The Reign in Spain?'

Nobody expects the Spanish King to leave!

In all seriousness is he going to have charges placed on him or is he just going to chill out in his vacation spot?

Technically the Dutch anthem is a longwinded declaration stating "I know the King of Spain is gods chosen representative on earth, but God himself orders us to kick him out" - not a pledge of loyalty ;)

However, it is funny that the song was only made the anthem centuries after the Spanish were removed.

If nobody expected the Spanish Inquisition, how could anybody expect a Spanish Extradition?

Send the Inquisition to conduct the extradition, and when they're in position, commence the requisition.

To be fair, the Spanish Inquisition always announced their coming well in advance in writing, so you could put your affairs in order.
Realism would have made the sketch dull though.

The Dominican Republic is largely Catholic, so it should be easy to spread sedition.

(In retrospect, a better line would have been "Relying on sedition, they could avoid any attrition.")

Good point, I agree with you. I support constitutional monarchies, under democratic multi political party nations and governments.

And if that fails, what's the betting one takes the nuclear option that is rendition?
