I'm glad most people in Lebanon understand that this time it wasn't Israel. There's no love lost between me and people like Benjamin Netanyahu, but they didn't do this and they're not the ones who should be held accountable for it.

You all talk like you lived here, if it wasn't for Hezbollah we wouldn't have the few social services we have.

Hezbollah is not a simple militia, it's a resistance force, without it Lebanon would be already occupied.

I'm done with this conversation anyways, we do have some large cultural gap.

No, the issue is you're an antisemite and you're defending a corrupt militia that ruined your country. Why don't you go tell the people on the street you love hezbollah since you're so proud of a group of crooks posing as terrorists posing as freedom fighters, cause that's what Hezbollah is.

And don't try and claim you aren't an anti semite. We all saw that Jewry comment.

Which is why people from multiple religious sects are rioting against them and other political parties. Also when you suggest something is the work of Jewry, yes it is a slur.

I was going to say that, unless it was a clear absence of common sense regulations that led to this explosion, it would only follow to lay extra blame on them for this if the explosives that triggered it were actually under their jurisdiction, rather than a private company. Then I read that this did in fact happen at a government facility. Figures.

It is not a good idea, but in some extreme cases you might be pushed to the point where it might be the least bad idea, and Lebanon may be at or nearing that point.
It is not for me to decide, but I understand why some people in Lebanon are making that decision.

And if it is I would hope it is more like Poland in 1989 but I do recognize a revolution that relatively painless is very unlikely in Lebanon.

This explains why the offer to possibly hold new elections is not enough:
“As the battles raged, Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab delivered an address to the nation that left little doubt that the political establishment intends to dig in. He offered early elections and said he needed two more months to secure an agreement among the country's political factions.

But the protesters said they don’t want their politicians to agree on early elections under a decades-old system they blame for the dysfunction that allowed a vast stockpile of explosive material to sit unattended at their port for more than six years, only to explode on Tuesday with such power that it was felt more than 120 miles away in Cyprus”

“Resign or Hang,” said the banners advertising the demonstration, making it clear that the demand is for the politicians to go, not to agree.”

Revolution is newer a good idea ever. Not unless the majority of the population is literally starving. Because it is a move that stands to cause horrible things to the whole of the population. So the potential net loss must be less than the potential net gain.

Like I said, least bad option. And Lebanon may be near the point of the majority literally starving.

It does not have to be quite to that point anyways, if the status quo is intolerable and no other method of changing it is available then
Certainly revolution was the least bad option in Poland in 1989.

Many revolutions have turned out for the better. Many have not. So while it is high risk, and certainly must be an option if things get bad enough with no other way to solve them.

Although it is not for you or me to decide. It is for the people of Lebanon. But it appears an increasing number are considering it, and I perfectly understand why. And cannot say they are wrong.
