Isn't this just a classic "use religion for political purpose"? In Indonesia, the leader of the Islamist opposition was a secular nationalist ex-general who drinks wine and doesn't pray. It's not too weird that these things happen. And religious Christians historically has voted for the Republican party, and Trump is a Republican, so the votes goes to him.

Religions have teachings; if you don't follow those teachings, you don't follow that religion. Doesn't matter how many times you've gone to mass, or taken communion, or if you were baptized. If you don't follow the rules of a religion then you don't belong to it. You can say you do all you like, but that doesn't make it true. You can't claim to follow a religion you refuse to follow the rules to.

It's just that Republicans and Democrats split the electorate 50/50, and because Bernie supporters weren't going to "vote blue no matter who," Trump got into office. (Not saying that Hillary would've been any better lol)
