The terror effect from this thing justifies it.
Also, giant robots.

To be fair, this one doesn't truly "walk" either, from the video clip it's basically a very large and very fancy 1:1 scale animatronic that can look like it's walking in that the legs move, but I'm pretty sure that the robot's weight is actually being carried by that structure it's attached to rather than its own legs. The mech doesn't have any counter-balancing movement to indicate weight being shifted when the one leg lifts up off the ground, and if that 25 tons was being carried by both feet there would be something visibly shifting to balance that load to the foot that was still on the ground.
... Which would then promptly sink into the ground because of the square–cube law, since as Gren already noted:Grenartia wrote:[*screeches in engineering and physics*]Grenartia wrote:"Well, you see, every time we try to mount a nuclear reactor on it to power the leg servos, it keeps sinking into the ground. I do love me some Gundam, but giant mecha anywhere close to the specs from the show are just not possible due to physics- the show had to cook up an entire fictional subset of nuclear physics to try and at least partly justify the mecha (and most of the other tech) in-universe. And this one is barely half the empty weight of the actual RX-78-2, let alone the fully equipped loadout weight (about 43 tons empty, 60 tons max load.)
I mean, this is still really freakin' cool and is going to be an amazing attraction to see, but it's nowhere close to "actual working giant combat robot." Some day maybe I'll actually be able to travel to Japan and see it in person once all this 2020 bullshit is behind us all.
