As someone who's going into 7th grade,I can agree that many of my classmates still think 9+10=21 is still a relevant ass meme, and since the majority (if not all) of them used TikTok,I can bet you $100 bucks if they all got super fucking pissed when this news came out. As I said through my puppet nation(The United Russian Commonwealth),my sisters have been using this shit since late 2019/when COVID-19 emerged,so if y'all can help my to try to convince them that that is spyware (like Google)I'll appreciate it.

You know the NationStates forum requires users to be at least 13, right?

Even the co-founder of Reddit refers to TikTok as spyware. Just from what I've seen of the app on other people's devices, each user's stream of videos they see is customized based on the videos they've watched already, which means TikTok is DEFINITELY collecting data as to who watches what video, and it's a great way to find yourself looking at a big echo chamber of similar and useless content.

Without a shadow of a doubt.

I only see the facets of right-wing conspiracy social media that get made fun of, but supposedly there's a few wacky folks around who think that kpop fans are agents of the North Korea government, out to get Trump.

Well, yes. That is how all such apps work. Heck, google works that way - it returns the results it thinks you want to see first. Hence why people end up in bubbles. But so do netflix, amazon, stores with loyalty cards etc. "You like this, therefor you may also like this".

So collecting data on what videos you watch on a videowatching app to determine what you may like is fine IMO. It is all the other things like location, contacts, other apps on your phone etc etc which I object being shared with governments, foreign or not.

Of all the people who can determine the location of my phone, why would I be worried about Chinese communists in particular?

I mean I am not thrilled with that but I am not all that worried. I aint got shit the PRC would want. If they want to see my fucking search history they can go ahead and traumatize themselves.

Let me take this opportunity to tell y'all about DuckDuckGo, which 100% doesn't steal your data. Download today.

Actually though, have you seen the Ts & Cs? They're longer than the Magna Carta (and I've seen it so I know it's true). They are definitely not to be trusted.

After hearing Microsoft is in talks to acquire TikTok, I kinda hope Microsoft gets another antitrust lawsuit thrown at it, just because the fallout would be hilarious.

My siblings are sadly one of them, they've gone down too far to be pulled out. Instead of looking into news articles and seeing for themselves if it is spyware or not, they get their opinions from TikTok, which is all the same shit over and over again. overall I'm damn sure that there is no video on their that shows evidence proving it is spyware (one redditor reversed engineered the app and found that the app was engineered to take data from you and give it to fuck knows who, found API that harvested data such as
*Phone hardware, such as CPU, memory usage, screen dimension
*Anything Network related, such as your IP,local IP,and the name of the WiFi access point
*If you've been rooted/jailbroken
Same thing was tried on Instagram, Facebook (of course would have that) reddit, and twitter, but not at the scale of TikTok)
Or the videos were taken down possibly for business reasons (the more of those exposé videos their are, less downloads their will be,which will equal to less money for them)

In other words, don't install it if you value privacy

The US locks up peaceful protesters? China just plain murders them by the thousands.

The US pollutes? China does worse.

The US tries to keep Muslims out? China doesn't let them leave.

TikTok is not free speech. There is nothing you can say on TikTok you can't say elsewhere. TikTok use is treason. It is a form of aiding and abetting the enemy.

I always doubt Trump's sincerity and I definitely do now. Considering how tiktokers bought tickets to his Tulsa rally just so it would be half empty, it's very likely this egotistical brat we call the president is doing this just to get revenge against them for ruining his rally.

We know Trump. He's a vindictive and immature fool.

You would want them to have it.

For a father who worked for the US dept of energy, his kid having it would be an issue

That does not make what Trump and his administration does right.

Nice whataboutism.

If only Trump knew how to actually wage economic war with China instead of make stupid platitudes and empty meaningless moves that do nothing to challenge China beyond annoying them (AND EVERY OTHER COUNTRY OUR ALLIES INCLUDED), this wouldn't be a problem.

But instead, his stupid idea is to block a stupid music app used by children?

They probably already do. The people in our government saying tiktok is a Chinese psyop are the same people who told me covid wasn't a big deal, branded all black lives matter demonstrators as terrorists and anarchists and locked kids in cages at the border, and im supposed to believe them?

That sounds like something Mike Pompeo or John Bolton would say.

I haven't seen conclusive proof that tiktok is a chinese psyop. I have seen evidence that tiktok hurt the president's ego though, and he's known to lie and make crap up so he can go after people.
