He cannot delay the election at all, that was the point we were making.

He can delay the election with the consent of Congress. Trump can propose that Congress delay the election, and Congress can decide whether to consent to the proposal, or to not consent to the proposal.

The president can refuse to sign the budget until the election date is delayed, and since most government workers are Democrats and both parties in the US Congress spend like drunken sailors on warfare and propping up the stock market, they might reach the spending cap fairly soon, and even if not, he can just veto the budget.

Is an attempt Constitutional? Arguable, but not definitive until we get a Supreme Court Ruling, depending on how drunk Roberts might get. I'm referring to the Nevada case, where, for some odd reason, casinos can have more attendees than Churches, on a purely per square foot basis. You can tell casinos to pound sand, or you can tell Churches to admit people using casino criteria, but setting different rules for casinos and Churches is just plain insane in the membrane.

I'm not more skeptical than not at the chances of this succeeding but i'm not going to take the R politicians word for this that they would oppose this when the time comes. The possiblity of some being dishonest and some being pressured to switch is a bit too high.
It's the other groups in law that makes me skeptical not republican congresspeople.

The problem is that Trump would be out of office at noontime on January 20th, 2021. This is Constitutional and there’s no way around it, and since the election for the legislature is set by the states it means that the democrats would have complete control of congress and Pelosi would be president.

So not only would it cost Trump the election it would also mean that the democrats would control the presidency in the interim
