On the one hand, some other vaccines have been shipped via UPS since before the pandemic, and it apparently wasn't a problem. On the other hand, UPS is run by idiots and it's been pretty messy this year.

We'll see how that goes.

American Airlines Group is also supposed to be flying vaccines soon too, as well as Lufthansa.

I suspect that everyone with logistical capability will be shipping them honestly.

Cargo compartment, at least the Pfizer one does. The FAA approved an allowance of more dry ice than normal on these flights, to keep the vaccines at the cold temperatures they need.

Americans speed in their cars a lot, because there's only a few places they're likely to get caught (and police are fine with that, since their local community much prefers that out-of-towners who don't know the places are the ones getting fines). Littering, obnoxious language which would be punishable if anyone bothered reporting it, drug offenses they won't get caught for so long as they keep it at home. The US does have nucleic acid testing. I think it's the "rapid test" but I doubt it's taken over as the main method ... because they'd be boasting about it, right? The sooner each test returns a result the better, because tho' people are supposed to quarantine between being tested and the results getting back to them, I doubt they often do.

In my own case it was hard, because the mild symptoms I had went away (or were covered up by my nose's reaction to a swab). I can see why "don't get tested on thursday or friday" isn't the public advice, but it's mine (for basic testing that takes a few days). Monday probably isn't ideal either, due to backlog from (some or all) labs not working on a weekend.

But the nucleic acid assay takes only four hours to get the results, and the PCR assay takes only 15 minutes. If you test dozens of samples together, you can monitor large numbers of samples faster.Excluding Monday, Thursday, Friday, you have only two working days in a week.It listen like "Hey bro, I don't care if you're sick or not. I'll get off work on time to drink beer.Oh, do you want to go too?Together"
I don't think the United States has imposed a mandatory quarantine. If so, millions of people in the United States should now be in negative pressure isolation facilities.Furniture touched by patients should be strictly sterilized.Aircraft and subway rides by patients should be thoroughly disinfected.Because this damn virus can even be spread by cold chain transport. Now that winter comes, it can survive in most places.

Hey, I think lab technicians should work 7 days a week. But for them to do that and also have days off, there would need to be more of them (to work in shifts) and I guess there aren't.

I just meant for the person getting a "slow" test, go on a Tuesday or Wednesday so you don't have to wait over the weekend. That's all.

Ah. Well it's Summer here. And I'm more likely to die from a bushfire than from covid.

"Quarantine" isn't always as strict as what you describe. People with symptoms but still waiting for a test are advised to stay in their room, and anyone bringing them food to wear a mask. People arriving in the country (presumably citizens, though I think a very few other reasons are permitted) get a single hotel room, with security to prevent them leaving. Since they have to pay for the hotel room this deters a lot of people from entering at all!

What "quarantine" might mean in the US I'm not sure. Frankly it would be pointless going to a lot of trouble for one known case, given the virus melee going on there.

I saw the numbers in Germany and it seems the second wave has peaked and is slowly starting to go down (except for some reason, the city of Passau has a ridiculously high amount of infections).

I really, really want to go to Florida in 2021 so I hope it goes down and stays down and that everyone can get vaccinated soon.

May would in fact be the perfect time of year for a Florida vacation. It's definitely going to be hot but less stormy than the middle of summer. And even though May in Germany is decent it's still usually not proper summer. I want to maximize summer so I wouldn't want to go to Florida in July or August, that would just be wasteful.

Just don't go to the Philippines in May, though; daily temperatures in the mid to high 30s is something I could barely stand, and I'm from there.

Speaking of numbers in Germany, covid has reached my family now. So let's hope things get better there. Even in a very rural area, covid has been pretty bad in this wave.

Over 50 South Dakotans died yesterday from covid and the governor is encouraging people to go out shopping. I think it's clear Kristi Noem is responding for hundreds of deaths.

I think Germany did a better job than most countries choosing reasonable measures and avoiding the extreme ones, but it is possible the Christmas season results in another spike.

I was passing through the city center yesterday and there was so many people. Most of them were in line to get into stores which limit capacity and there is a mask mandate in the pedestrian only streets but it was nonetheless a concerningly dense crowd.

The most recent plan was to restrict gatherings to 5 people but they are going to increase it to 10 during the two weeks around Christmas.

I hope your family will be alright.

I am concerned about anti-mask people in Germany, though. And apparently some stores aren't doing any contact tracing, which is also worrying.

There seems to be a serious problem with enforcement across the board. In a society like ours, "the honor system" just means "do what benefits yourself." I've seen it with restaurant closures as well.

As terrible as that is what are landlords supposed to do for money? The government is giving them no support just like small business. Its a sort of let them eat cake attitude.
