Apparently UPS is going to be shipping vaccines too.
On the one hand, some other vaccines have been shipped via UPS since before the pandemic, and it apparently wasn't a problem. On the other hand, UPS is run by idiots and it's been pretty messy this year.
We'll see how that goes.
American Airlines Group is also supposed to be flying vaccines soon too, as well as Lufthansa.

Number of police is practically irrelevant. If neighbours don't report a person who's supposed to be in quarantine going out, no amount of police are going to know. Well unless they have GPS ankle bracelets. You've also got to consider that "penalties" in the US are just a fine, like a minor traffic infringement: a misdemeanor that won't be used against them for anything. Americans speed in their cars a lot, because there's only a few places they're likely to get caught (and police are fine with that, since their local community much prefers that out-of-towners who don't know the places are the ones getting fines). Littering, obnoxious language which would be punishable if anyone bothered reporting it, drug offenses they won't get caught for so long as they keep it at home. And I'm not saying Australia is much different: most people break the law in minor ways, and quite often, so when there's a new penalty for not wearing a mask (or distancing, or going out without a good reason) they just don't take it very seriously. "I won't get caught, and even if I do a $500 fine won't wreck me."
The US does have nucleic acid testing. I think it's the "rapid test" but I doubt it's taken over as the main method ... because they'd be boasting about it, right? The sooner each test returns a result the better, because tho' people are supposed to quarantine between being tested and the results getting back to them, I doubt they often do.
In my own case it was hard, because the mild symptoms I had went away (or were covered up by my nose's reaction to a swab). I can see why "don't get tested on thursday or friday" isn't the public advice, but it's mine (for basic testing that takes a few days). Monday probably isn't ideal either, due to backlog from (some or all) labs not working on a weekend.

But the nucleic acid assay takes only four hours to get the results, and the PCR assay takes only 15 minutes. If you test dozens of samples together, you can monitor large numbers of samples faster.Excluding Monday, Thursday, Friday, you have only two working days in a week.It listen like "Hey bro, I don't care if you're sick or not. I'll get off work on time to drink beer.Oh, do you want to go too?Together"
I don't think the United States has imposed a mandatory quarantine. If so, millions of people in the United States should now be in negative pressure isolation facilities.Furniture touched by patients should be strictly sterilized.Aircraft and subway rides by patients should be thoroughly disinfected.Because this damn virus can even be spread by cold chain transport. Now that winter comes, it can survive in most places.

By May or so it may have been significantly decreased.

May would in fact be the perfect time of year for a Florida vacation. It's definitely going to be hot but less stormy than the middle of summer. And even though May in Germany is decent it's still usually not proper summer. I want to maximize summer so I wouldn't want to go to Florida in July or August, that would just be wasteful.

Speaking of numbers in Germany, covid has reached my family now. So let's hope things get better there. Even in a very rural area, covid has been pretty bad in this wave.

I think Germany did a better job than most countries choosing reasonable measures and avoiding the extreme ones, but it is possible the Christmas season results in another spike.
I was passing through the city center yesterday and there was so many people. Most of them were in line to get into stores which limit capacity and there is a mask mandate in the pedestrian only streets but it was nonetheless a concerningly dense crowd.
The most recent plan was to restrict gatherings to 5 people but they are going to increase it to 10 during the two weeks around Christmas.
I hope your family will be alright.

...seriously?
I was expecting something comparable to food distribution centers only providing food to women again or something.
