Hmm. It always was a lose/lose. The economy was going to take a hit even if they did nothing (loss of retail turnover, restrictions in blue states). While doing nothing would have led to hospitals overloading and people dying in the street. The "correct" balance was still going to be bad politically: any amount of restriction will offend some people, while any number of avoidable deaths would offend others.

Maybe if Trump had called for no restrictions at all, and everyone had seen for real how bad that could get (not really, it would still at least have been summer) then red states as well as blue would have applied some restrictions, and better tailored ones, while compliance and self-restraint by the people would have been much better. Ghoulish perhaps, and by now the death tally would be much higher, but at least new infections and death rate would be going DOWN now, instead of UP.

Trump's timing couldn't have been worse. Congress tightening the purse strings was ill-timed for the election too.

While this one was from yesterday, that it's causing RITM to suspend testing means we're gonna have some delays in updates.

The Department of Health-Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (DOH-RITM) will temporarily shut down its laboratory operations on November 1 and 2 to give way to disaster risk mitigation measures throughout the institute as Typhoon Rolly is forecasted to bring heavy to intense rains starting Saturday, October 31.

“We intend to test samples received until tomorrow, October 31. We strongly encourage disease reporting units to refer their samples early, preferably between 7 am to 10 am. Those that would not be tested within the day will be stored in our -70° freezer for priority queuing when we resume operations,” RITM Director Celia Carlos announced.

RITM said that while its labs will resume accepting referred samples on Tuesday, November 3, clinical services within the institute will remain unhampered. Outpatient swabbing and walk-in patients will still be entertained, but only COVID-19 cases will be admitted to the hospital, it added.

So I just found out this Trumpster me and my brother know who caught covid was at an ice cream shop we frequent yesterday afternoon. He went there and the place doesn't enforce masks and I never saw him wear one himself. I dont believe this. That place is gonna become a Hotspot and I'm not going there again till like 5000 people catch the virus from there and it gets shut down by the MDHHS.

Biden can't enforce stricter laws everywhere. He can encourage better behavior from people but my state is firmly under Republican control and they've taken a very reckless approach to controlling the virus, which is to say they've decided not to control it at all.
