Governor Newsom in California announced rules for Thansgiving gatherings.

All gatherings must include no more than three households, including hosts and guests, and must be held outdoors, lasting for two hours of less.

The new rules state those at a gathering "may remove their face coverings briefly to eat or drink as long as they stay at least 6 feet away from everyone outside their own household, and put their face covering back on as soon as they are done with the activity."

and no singing or chanting.

id love to know how he plans on enforcing them for private gatherings. Are all people in the state going to monitored?

Some of my relatives have been expressing their...discontent...regarding these somewhat restrictive guidelines over the past couple days.

That's a little weird. If you're Coof free it would just seem a waste of resources to keep you in quarantine until the time's up.

The death toll is climbing nationwide and especially in Wisconsin. There were 4131 new cases and 57 deaths in Wisconsin yesterday, which may not seem like alot, but if the US had the same death rate as the state of Wisconsin, that would be 3,214 deaths in one day. The US yesterday btw had 81,181 new cases and 1016 new deaths. And we're still in autumn. What happens when winter comes?

Over 5000 new positive tests in Wisconsin on Tuesday. I've lived in Wisconsin my entire life but still don't know anyone personally who's tested positive.

That doesn't make these numbers any less concerning, though, and this is all in spite of Governor Evers' mask requirement. Since that was imposed on 1 August, our numbers have skyrocketed. We're seeing four times as many new positive tests per day as we were then. I'd say the mask rule has at least 97% compliance, so to me this proves, Tony, your mask rule ain't working.*

It also makes me worry he's going to lock us down all over again. I expect near-certain legal challenges if he does, considering Republican lawmakers are sick of him openly admitting he doesn't care about the rule of law, but such is par for the course.

We've exchanged WhatsApp messages across the Atlantic this morning, and he seems to be in fine fettle.

He voted in the US election via absentee ballot 2 weeks ago (he's a naturalised US citizen), so this won't get in the way of his voting. My niece is indeed stuck at home with them for the next 10 days, which will no doubt delight a 16 year old who finds her parents mildly embarrassing.

Made the mistake of reading the comments section in a YouTube video about rising covid rates. If you wanna see why the US makes up 4% of the world population but 20% of covid deaths, you'll find your answer there. Because in South Korea almost everyone takes this seriously whereas here 50% of people either think it's a hoax or think mass death is a legit price to pay for being able to go golfing and go to the movies. When this is all over, this will go down in history as an American tragedy.

As for myself, I started becoming scared when several people I knew caught covid in a single week. The cases skyrocketed here in Michigan and then people I knew got sick and thats when I said "oh shit, this is bad." And I know, I'm a young guy and my chance of dying from covid is low. But my chance of becoming a long hauler is higher and my chance of having a miserable week of pain, fever, chills and delirium is high enough that I fear it. And my mom is in probably the highest risk category for covid since her immune system is next to non existent so my terror has been through the roof. We had like 3000 new cases yesterday. It's starting to feel like April again.
