A Florida county sheriff has banned his deputies from wearing masks and anyone who visits the sheriffs office will be asked to leave if they don't remove it.

Either he is just monumentally deluded or he is outright malicious. Either way that fucker should be fired.

This particular sheriff is up for election in November, though.

And it’s up to the voters to decide if they want to keep him

If that's a red area, I highly doubt that sheriff will be voted out.

Than that's just freedom, remember that the ability to win an allegedly free and fair election is the only thing that matters, regardless of a blithe disregard for public safety.

14 new cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand, one in managed isolation and 13 associated with the four positive cases of the family in South Auckland, including three additional workers of the coolstore facility where the index case and his son worked.

Daniel Andrews claims that he was never offered ADF assistance with hotel quarantine, even though every other state was. How stupid does he think we are? But I feel sorry for him, at least he's trying. That Jenny Minakos, Victoria's health minister, on the other hand...

It's better because they know who the cases are linked to. They haven't found the source of the infection, but two Americool coolstore facilities have been closed, one in Mount Wellington in Auckland, and the other at Auckland International Airport, with surface testing being conducted.

At the moment the Ministry of Health thinks it's human-to-human, but they're investigating all possibilities. Picking it up off packaging would be the best case scenario, dependent on arrival, but would cause some headaches for imports and exports.

Meanwhile the Moscow-based Association of Clinical Trials Organizations (Acto), which represents the world's top drug companies in Russia, urged the health ministry to postpone approval until after phase-three trials.

Acto executive director Svetlana Zavidova told the Russian MedPortal site that a decision on mass vaccination had been carried out after a combined first- and second-phase tests on 76 people, and that it was impossible to confirm the efficacy of a drug on this basis.

So they've tested it on 76 whole people and are approving it for release. That's a big no thanks from me.

So they skip the third phase of the test and use it on a large scale. That doesn't sound like a good thing. The third phase involves hundreds to thousands of people and lasts for months. It usually takes months for regulators to review the vaccine after that.So the Russians skip at least half a year of research and development. If there are some problem with this vaccine, many people around the world will not dare to accept other vaccines. It will hurt people's confidence in the healthcare industry.

Which means social distancing will possibly never end nor will mandatory masks

They're also putting all confirmed cases into quarantine facilities, as we have been doing with cases at the border.

Truly someone who wants to protect the public good.

Yeah, I was wondering where the “protect” part of “Protect and serve” went.

Legally the police are under no obligation to protect and serve.

The Supreme Court, in DeShaney v. Winnebago County DSS (1989)

Nevertheless, the Court found that the government had no affirmative duty to protect any person, even a child, from harm by another person. “Nothing in the language of the Due Process Clause itself requires the State to protect the life, liberty, and property of its citizens against invasion by private actors," stated Chief Justice Rehnquist for the majority, "even where such aid may be necessary to secure life, liberty, or property interests of which the government itself may not deprive the individual" without “due process of the law.”

Which was upheld by the Supreme Court in Castle Rock v. Gonzales (2005):

The Court went on to reaffirm the DeShaney ruling that there is no affirmative right to aid by the government or the police found in the U.S. Constitution, and thus no legal recourse could be brought thereunder. The “no duty to protect” rule remains unwavering and the law today.

It's precedent at this point that the police have no obligation to protect you or your property
