UK has done a great job as well.

You said the same thing about the economy collapsing a year ago and look, the economy is still here. You've been predicting doom for twelve months now and you've been wrong every single time. You should probably give up this anti-lockdown crusade.

I think it's worse that unlike rando Trump fans, Lumen knows covid is dangerous. So he knows and he still wants to reopen everything now.

Lumen is in New York, where over a thousand restaurants have closed permanently and where 2/3 of the jobs in what used to be one of the largest entertainment industries in the world have disappeared. I wonder why he's concerned about the hit to the economy?

That squiggly line with the dot under it is a question mark, it indicates that the preceding sentence is a question. Tell me what you think is wrong with a policy of vaccinating people and what policy you want to replace it.

And an economic downturn is not the same as a collapse. You've been saying for a year that whole industries were on the verge of vanishing, hyperinflation would have us paying thousands of dollars for bread, all joy would be gone from the world. And you were wrong, wrong, wrong. And now that there is light at the end of the tunnel you are still saying the same thing.

And where he lives, several industries have almost completely vanished. The entertainment industry is not going to find a 2/3 contraction easy to recover from, and I suspect that when they are allowed to open again there will be even more closures as broke companies have to rehire staff.

You don't expect people to become frustrated with a government that seems to have no plan whatsoever and won't acknowledge the consequences of their actions? Germany has been under near total lockdown for four months now.

And how much are people supposed to sacrifice for one group of people? Their mental health, their home, their livelihood, their children's well being?

The fact is Germany and other European countries screwed up and instead of coming up with a new plan they are continuing the same one expecting a different outcome and for the populous to just accept it. If you dont give people hope or any end in site don't be surprised when compliance begins to drop and different levels of government start to be at odds with each other.

I don't know, elderly people tend to make up significant proportions of the population. Are you telling me a few million preventable deaths here and there are perfectly acceptable?

Which one is gonna make up a good portion of the future, the people who are losing their minds at a relatively young age over the lockdowns or the elderly citizens who are going to pass eventually anyway?

I am not going to deny a million deaths would be a bad thing but the solution cannot be worse than the problem itself. How many starving children, closed business, lost jobs and homeless people is it worth? At some point life has to go on and some European countries in response to their failure have no other solution other than keep everything closed and stop complaining.

They have to be careful with these things, cause once their credibility takes a hit, because they were premature, it gets very difficult for people to listen to them.

You have to give people hope. In Germany there is no plan other than lockdown and people are growing increasingly frustrated and defiant.

Which people? My family definitely isn't getting defiant, they're just wearing masks, trying to stay home, and waiting for the vaccine.

The solution is to keep things closed and have government pay wage replacement in the meantime. We can promote public health and still find economic solutions, this is hardly an "either or" situation.

the government can't just pay everyone's wages for months on end and expect when they reopen things for cities to magically come to back to life when entire industries have collapsed.

Sure, with a smaller population that’s sustainable, but when you have millions on millions of people being paid to do nothing you’re just asking for trouble and governmental chaos.
