Meanwhile, in Glorious Britannia!, the JCVI is now recommending that "Men" - who make up half of the population - receive the vaccine as soon as they are offered it (in addition to members of BAME communities, the obese, and residents of deprived neighbourhoods, which means that the JCVI's exhortation easily covers a majority of Brits).

Has any other government or advisory group, anywhere else in the world, issued a similar recommendation for such a broad cross-section of inhabitants?

Got a paper as we were leaving work today that informs us that - as essential manufacturing workers - we become eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine on March 10th, so depending on supply I may be able to get vaccinated soon.

So, a while back, I said that we would know that vaccines were having a significant population-level effect when we started seeing negative quadratics in log-scale graphs. We're there.

AS a Canadian Im embarrassed at how the US of all countries will be getting vaccinated before us. Turns out the last few conservative governments gutted the ever living daylights out of our manufacturing capacity to make our own vaccines.

Everyone's praising NZ, but they're currently upto the forth lockdown. The most lockdowns that any jurisdiction in Auatralia has had was 3, which was the state of Victoria (or more specifically, Melbourne)

Well clearly New Zealand seems to be doing something right with their lockdowns since they’ve had some of the lowest amount of total cases and lowest amount of deaths of the pandemic.

You have to understand it hits different when Covid is all around you, making every time you step out in public you run the risk of bringing death back to your home, where thousands of your countrymen are dying every day from the virus. New Zealand sounds like paradise right now.

Everyone is praising NZ because they've done brilliantly. And they're laughing at Australians who say their Tasman cousins don't deserve praise because "4 lockdowns".

New Zealanders aren't exactly humble, but Australians certainly are sore losers.

Huh. I've been saying now for months men are far more likely to die from covid, and are at far greater risk - ergo, they're a higher risk group than similar aged/health condition women.

Good to see someone else recognized it.

Well done UK. Well done.

I don't think the case for exiting the third one was solid to start with.

Also, only Auckland's had more than two (and I can't remember if the rest of the country was in level three in August). But, again, more than a third of the country lives in Auckland.

This is surprising but welcome news.

Once a vaccine has been fully confirmed to be safe, it should be fast-tracked to groups needing it the most.
