Apparently the NI executive is gona make Masks mandatory in shops come the 20th if people dont step up their game. Should have been fucking mandatory already, if i can wear a mask for my shifts you can wear a mask for a few minutes in a fucking shop.

Speaking of which im the only member of staff in my shops that wears a mask consistently. At least out of everyone ive worked with since being back, occasionally they were wear a plastic face screen when going out onto the shop floor, but even sometimes they dont do that either.

I always wear a face mask in public, both indoors and outdoors, unless I'm eating or drinking. I even wear my mask while driving if my hands have touched any high-risk surface, such as a gas nozzle at a petrol/gas station, to prevent me from touching my face, and I rub hand sanitizer on my steering wheel, handbrake, car keys, etc. after I fill up the tank. I hang my mask up under the sun to disinfect it after I get home. I've only ever worn two cloth face masks since Malaysia's lockdown began in March. There's only so many masks to go around and the environment needs saving. The Ministry of Health made mention of fabric face masks that can be washed and reused. I wonder when these will be made available.

I always thought Duterte was one of the few right-wing leaders who wasn't in complete denial about the situation. Wasn't he threatening to shoot people for violating lockdown protocols a few months back? It looks like the Philippines may even overtake Indonesia in confirmed cases at this rate.

The Malaysian government has started fining and arresting people for not wearing face masks beginning yesterday. Police continue to arrest people for gathering in large crowds, yet there has been no news yet of any arrests or any sort of legal action against Najib supporters who crowded together to protest against Najib's corruption conviction. What makes these people so important?

Beginning Aug. 10, there will be a limited, reciprocal travel arrangement between Malaysian and Singaporean residents and citizens of either country who normally commute to the other country for work. My biggest concern is that once Singaporeans and Singapore residents have been screened and test negative for the coronavirus, they are no longer required to quarantine themselves any further.

Real talk, the disregard for the elderly by so many virus denialists (thanks for that one Trump) is so sad. Sure they trend Republican but that doesn't mean they deserve to get fucking sick and die.

Donald Trump isn't the sole cause of the virus denalists. In order to argue that, America would have to be the only country with denalists, and that couldn't be further from the truth. That's not to say that Donald Trump isn't exacerbating the problem- he certainly is, but he's not the cause of it. It's funny how Donald Trump, a 74 year old man, is denying the serverity of a disease which mostly kills old people. Given his age and his weight, he's definately in the at risk catagory. Is he willing to die as president (death is okay as long as I was president) or is actually that stupid?

Exactly. There a bunch of conspiracy theorists and alt-rights who gathered in Berlin to protest the coronavirus itself, iirc. Covid stupidity isn’t limited to America only.

BUT I DIGRESS. When Duterte said he would ask the ChiComs for whatever vaccine they have available, the comment sections were flooded with people saying this was a bad idea. Securing SARS-CoV-2 vaccines from the PRC, I mean. I don't really know why mandatory masks in businesses and other indoor business places are not standard policy...they seem to be such an easy, effective way to minimize the spread of coronavirus even without considering any social distancing factors. Had such measures been implemented early on the disastrous lockdowns could have likely been avoided in their entirety.

Really, there isn't a whole lot that can't remain open and functioning with a simple mask mandate in place.

Some anti-maskers globally are equating the face mask to the burqa, stating that just as the burqa takes away women's rights, mandatory face masks take away everyone else's rights.

Really, there isn't a whole lot that can't remain open and functioning with a simple mask mandate in place.

At the beginning of everything, though, the WHO was saying masks didn't do much to stop the spread of the virus - they have a point, since virus particles can still make it into your body through your eyes, but the distance travelled by particles leaving your nose and mouth is reduced substantially if you wear a mask, so the cliche of "it's not to protect you; it's to protect others" is actually true. I agree that if wearing masks had been mainstream and encouraged early on (February-early March), the whole thing could have been significantly reduced in scope.

With that being said, remember how in March when the lockdowns were first instituted, the line was that things could go mostly or fully back to normal in only 2-4 weeks? As it stands right now, our attempts to "flatten" the epidemic curve have done just that: prolong the duration of all of this without reducing the area under the curve. Little did anyone know that the actual peak of the epidemic in the United States would be in July as opposed to March or April.

I am, for the record, still not convinced lockdowns are the answer. During the Ebola epidemic in West Africa a few years ago, Sierra Leone instituted only a three-day lockdown, and I can't find anything regarding Liberia or Guinea imposing a lockdown at all. They made sure people knew how to prevent the disease, people understood the gravity of the situation and followed through, and the epidemic resolved itself from first case to last trickle in a bit over two years. SARS, bird flu, and swine flu all for the most part resolved themselves without state- or country-wide lockdowns within two years or less. South Dakota governor Kristi Noem never formally instituted a "stay at home" or similarly named order; she focused on getting information out to people and letting them make their own decisions, and the outbreak there seems to have peaked in May and have seen a mostly linear growth in total infections for the last two months, only a slight increase within the past couple of weeks.

My strategy if I had been the leader of a state or country: make sure accurate, complete, and recent data are publicly available, and make sure there are enough masks and enough space in hospitals to go around. Emphasize proper hygiene, keeping distance from other people, and otherwise remaining safe. Without hysterics and without downplaying what's going on, just make sure to hammer the point home and give people the information they need. Quarantine infected people and work on contact tracing, but don't try to dodge the problem by locking everyone in their house.

Did China have a transparent government with good human rights when the SARS outbreak occurred? I think the political situation was better in some ways, but it was still the CCP and Westerners were still harping on them as if nothing had changed since Tiananmen Sq.

If you maintain that SARS outbreak was contained because the Chinese government was better back then, it means the West needs to rethink the way they talk about China.

If you maintain that the West has been right to criticize China so harshly all along, then you must also acknowledge that the difference between SARS and COVID is in the virus itself. (The viruses do behave differently and COVID is much easier to spread unknowingly. SARS is easier to track because there is not a lot of asymptomatic or presymptomatic spread.)

Comparing with MERS is just ignorant. MERS is still around. It was never contained, and yet it doesn't infect many people because it just isn't very contagious.

China is definitely fudging its figures. I'll never forgive that lying bitch Carrie Lam for using the pandemic to postpone the Legislative Council elections for an ENTIRE YEAR because the CCP is legitimately afraid it might lose for the first time ever despite the entire system being historically rigged in its favor.

Vietnam is experiencing a second wave of virus cases due to illegal immigration from CHINA, and Vietnam had no local cases for MONTHS. Don't tell me the second wave in Hong Kong is due to the pan-democrat primaries that were held last month. The second wave was imported from CHINA. The first global wave to ravage Europe and the United States was imported from CHINA. CHINA is to blame for the pandemic's origins. If China was a democracy, there wouldn't even be a fucking pandemic in the first place. The government lies and cheats like there's no tomorrow.

100%. With a competent Chinese government that's actually transparent and respects people's rights, we might have something like MERS come out of this, or something like SARS that spread around the world a little bit but never reached pandemic levels, but the saying of "China lied, people died" is by this point an objective fact.

Because the West has a more transparent government than China, in theory, it should be the first time to detect the virus and successfully contain it.After all, they are not a third world country lacking medical capacity.
But what happened that caused the virus to spread in these countries because China lied.Because there are better medical institutions, western countries should be able to announce the danger of the virus in the first place and control it.The west, with transparent government, should be able to tell the world what to do and lead action in the first place. After all, they are not a third world country lacking medical capacity.
Is there a possibility that as long as China does not publish the virus, the West will never find it.Oh,impossible.After all, they are not a third world country lacking medical capacity.

Speaking of which im the only member of staff in my shops that wears a mask consistently. At least out of everyone ive worked with since being back, occasionally they were wear a plastic face screen when going out onto the shop floor, but even sometimes they dont do that either.

Here in the PH our healthcare worker in Metro Manila are crying for stricter lockdowns TIGHTER QUARANTINE MEASURES because they're being overwhelmed even as Duterte steadies on with eased quarantine restrictions for two months now in the Metro...sure, the plan is to isolate COVID hotspots while letting the rest breathe easier, but on the ground? I dunno.
And then you have Duterte going as far as suggesting you use kerosene as a disinfectant. Kerosene!

And they got their wish: quarantine measures are one step tighter beginning tomorrow the 4th until the 18th.
Let "¡Viva la Libertad!" be a cry of Eternal Defiance to the Jackboot.
