Seriously, I think that if the EU. and Russia agree to make Ukraine a buffer state plus no more military expansion into each others sphere of influence that all will be happiness between the EU. and Russia. It seems Russia is more interested in developing there Far East and Northern coast sea route, which is opening up due to the Arctic ice melting. But what they consider there major security problem in Western Russia has kind of prevented them from fully implementing there plans. Seems this has been there historical problem. Russia expanded into Alaska and California but in the end had to sell there rights to those places because of major security concerns in Western Russia with the Ottomans and other European nations. You cannot properly develop a far-flung part of your empire if the main part, the core of Russia, could be at risk of being invaded.

I'm glad to see that the EU has reached a $390 billion economic stimulus package.This is a milestone for the European Union. It is not easy to reach an agreement so quickly from the split union in the European debt crisis to today.It seems that France and Germany are determined to play a leading role in Europe.

An ally for/against what? I hear this all the time and it's stupid. Russia's geopolitical interests are completely at odds with America's and Europe's. America isn't just going to sacrifice her relationship with Europe to "ally" itself with a country that is much weaker and less strategically valuable. The real world doesn't work like a video game.

The sooner Europe unites, the sooner Europe will collapse. It would be the worst possible thing for Europe and utterly destroy it by turning it into a homogenous failure with no ability to defend itself from modern threats foreign and domestic. The only reason Europe is still existing is that it is too much of a mess for singular entities to have a single viable method to crush. Once Europe is a singular entity, it will cease to be Europe and just be gutted by the European elites, Russia, China, and the US.

Not all of the countries in that map are current members of the EU and full membership is unlikely in the near future unless something changes that increases the chance of full membership of those nations.

Besides, the EU wouldn’t be a full republic if it united as there are monarchies that would be maintained, such as in Scandinavia and the Benelux.

Russia and the United States prefer the status quo, and certainly Russia does. They have diplomatic disputes, and geo-political games with each other. Though it is more of a competition than hostility. Russia has neighbors far more of issue, and more of an annoyance. Russia and the US have worked with each other on occasion for convenience, but a long-term Alliance would be untenable. China also has territorial claims on Russia, yet they will support China out of convenience occasionally at the UN. If China started invading it's neighbors in a big way though, then Russia and the US would be temporary allies perhaps - though it would be up to Russia what their red line would be i.e. like China invading the Kurils.

Don't know. Scandinavia is pretty opposed to European Federalism, as is Ireland and the UK. And Switzerland, of course. It would be lovely to see a completely pan-European state but I doubt it will happen.
