Race is not a factor in how I vote or of anyone I know. I vote for whomever the best person is. But having a legislature that looks the state or country is not a bad thing

Not inherently. But it is a bad thing when the legislature neglects the needs of the state or country, or worse, actively opposes them. Like I said, if the legislature looks like me but wants to ruin my life, that’s a problem. The way I see it, if left unchecked, these legitimate reasons for diversity could very easily devolve into voting along racial lines.

Yes that is true. having someone who is non white in the legislature but is extremely corrupt is not a good thing

I just imagined some hispanic congressman at his inaugural address saying "legalize drugs" and people applaud and he then adds "and murder," and the applause slows and people look confused and scared.

That's a crazy vision but in this day and age who knows?

This sounds like something out of GTA, ngl.

Perhaps the greatest example of white fragility in this thread.

"When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression."

-unknown

Probably because many people especially communists don't actually fight for "equality" but for a form of revenge and inverted hierarchy.

What does communism have to do with this?

Nothing. Just another right winger trying to slander us by associating us with those revengeful idiots. News flash, hating another race for existing is a far right wing opinion, no matter what race it is. White supremacy is a far right position, but black supremacy is too. It is NOT far-left.

White people who refuse to even consider that they may have been privileged all their life (by being white in a majority-white society) will necessarily see equality as "inversion".

It's rational selfishness. You (or I) do not want to acknowledge that we didn't get everything we have, starting from an equal position, by our own hard work and talent. Any suggestion we should "give something back" or give any kind of break to a black person is offensive, because by rational selfishness we have persuaded ourselves that anyone comparable by age, who is less successful, is only so because of their bad choices or bad work ethic.

It will come to you, I am sure. It might be at 25, or 30 or even 40, it will dawn on you that you're not going far. And you'll look at someone your age who was born rich, or who made "better" choices because in their early life their ambition was not crushed, but rather encouraged. And is now a billionaire. And it will dawn on you: "that's privilege, and I never had it".

Agreed. I have no hatred whatsoever of any race. Whomever people chose to vote for is regardless of race or religion is their right
