A plus side on that is that people would actually be prepared in case they are selected for public service, willing or not.

It definitely is true. A poor black man will always have more in common with a pope white man than with a rich black man
Parties and groups try to recruit candidates to run all the time
It’s still their decision to run or not and nobody is forcing them

No one should be forced to run for office but to blame the system is an easy way out. Local offices such as mayors are largely male and white too. That has changed in recent years though.
What is your solution for that?

I swear, you people have zero understanding of what's meant by privilege as a social tendency; it's precisely that, a tendency, not an absolute proclamation that all men have power or that all men have higher status than women (or in the case of race, that whites by neccesity have these things). Get it right, and don't make these stupid mischaracterizations another time.
In what sense is the assertion childish? The data doesn't exactly contradict Trollzyn's argument that it's rich privilege at work, in conjunction or in place of white supremacy.
La xinga wrote:Duvniask wrote:What? No.
I'm saying black people in the US are especially disadvantaged because of the legacy of slavery (meaning white privilege is certainly tied into the legacy of slavery). Slavery obviously prevented black communities from building up any sort of accumulated wealth and prevented their access to education and government, and that meant a lack of accumulated wealth to pass down to their descendants, a lack of education and a lack of representation, which in concert produced a ripple effect still being felt today, as Black people are poorer on average than Whites; they were disadvantaged from the get-go. Combine this with racial bias itself, deliberate or otherwise, and you get a black community that is on average poorer, less well-educated, has a lower standard of living and isn't represented in government (as we can clearly see from the data presented in the OP).Munkcestrian RepubIic wrote:NSG is MISSING THE POINT (or, rather, that there ISN'T ONE) yet again.
State legislatures mean nothing. There are a lot of states. Most of them don't have equal populations. Minorities are concentrated in only a few. New Hampshire has 400 representatives. New Hampshire is 94% white.

How exactly do things like police stopping black drivers more have anything to do with rich privilege (and then not doing so when it's dark and they can't see who they're stopping)?
Spoiler: it doesn't.La xinga wrote:
If he'd read the report he'd know that it also looks on a state-by-state basis, and there are graphs on page 9 showing the disparity and underrepresentation of "New Americans" (as they put it) by state.
And there is (obviously) no state with any gender being less than 40%, so this does not explain the gender disparity in state legislatures, where 71% are men.

Maybe police stop black drivers more because they patrol those areas more. It still could be related to class more than race, like if police focus all their attention on the poor side of town.

The easiest answer is that as an aggregate, darker-skinned people are poorer in the US. i.e. The cops make a snap decision and rely on their stereotypes, and poorer people = easier to shake down.
Shock absorber: It does

The system is the problem. To say that the system isn’t the problem is denying the root of the problem

MMP or PR for the legislature and IRV or Two Round for things like Governor or mayor

Literally incapable of understanding what's meant by a social privilege, the people in this thread.
What use is it to argue with people who don't want to learn anything and will keep asserting their viewpoints against strawmen? I mean, this is the same level of obtuseness as "it snowed yesterday, so clearly the globe isn't warming". No, man, it has to do with societal trends which are not particularly well-assessed by your anecdotal experience.

Trends don't equal individual experiences tho. Minorities are more likely to experience inequality but when controlled for socioeconomic standing, that inequality all but melts away.
