Montenegro (update Serbia) possibly on verge of Civil War

I haven’t heard anything about what’s been going over in Montenegro in the UK. COVID and other, more internationally-“interesting” stories are what’s mainly being talked about.

Edit: Still, it’s very concerning.

I've just given up with the BBC. It's either recycled covid stuff, some murder (which although tragic, isn't big international news) or some hot take by some who's only credentials is being LGBT. I prefer France 24 now.

How am I proving your point? The balkans is still an ethnically tense place where bad blood remains between people. This isnt racist. This is just how it is. It's why Serbs and Albanians who are second generation Americans won't talk to each other in my hometown.

Btw, when did I say the US wasn't experiencing problems? I'm of the unpopular opinion that we could have a second civil war here if things don't chill out.

You cannot Compare the conditions from 1991 with that of 2020. Back than Serbia had a much better economy, they had a good international reputation and were independent from eu and USA. And even had their support. Today Serbia cannot sent the army in Montenegro.

I predict the pro-serbian opposition will protest in the next few months until it ends. Even if they manage to somehow overthrow Djukanović, what will they do? Russia is far away and cannot help them.

I'm not predicting a war between nations, but a war within a nation.

He's trying to de serb the country by banning the Serbian Orthodox Church and oppressing the Serbian Montenegrin's. The Serbian Nationalist party is strongly against the Oppression and encourage the President of Montenegro to flee before things get out of hand. At one point half the Country was in open Protest to the Government. The Serbs and Muslims in Montenegro are standing together and have Support from the Montenegrin's.

TLDR: Ripoff Putin Doesn't like Citizens not conforming to his made up Ethnic Group/Language and Unknowingly started a Revolution against himself.

If you call the president of Montenegro a dictator then you've demonstrated that you're understanding of the region or the situation is zilch. Đukanović isn't the greatest of people, assuming you knew who he was, but he doesn't really cross the line into dictator. And further more if you think Montenegrin's are a newly made up thing then you've only confirmed you're lack of understanding.

That's not entirely true. There are some minor differences although it's no more major than the ones between any two south slavs.

All south slavs are basically the same thing but divided up into their own identities and constantly at each other's throats, like warring German states in the 1800s.

Kosovo is just an all around dangerous place. It doesnt have political problems as much as just the problems you would see in an American inner city. It's very poor and there's alot of drugs and crime. But thats what it's like when your country is literally made up of "civil bloodbath survivors."

The claim that it was always going to fall apart was made by the same actors who either supported the WMD in Iraq theory, or did nothing to stop it, so I gotta wonder if Yugoslavia could've genuinely been preserved, or could've been Velvet Divorced, or could've had its power decentralized like Switzerland. Because shit just keeps on happening and happening in that region, and it's fucked up.
