The stigma against polyamory is probably because of sick fucks who exercise polygamy with child brides.
Bloodthirsty savages who call for violence against the Right while simultaneously being unarmed defenseless sissies who will get slaughtered by the gun-toting Right in a civil war.

It's also because it seems to be no bueno for society at large and, to some extent, toxic in individual relationships.

It says something that we're now at the point where Celt is arguing;

"You have no evidence the rich will exploit this for their own personal gain at the expense of everyone else" as though the 21st century is just something that happened to other people.

I get why you could believe "This time it'll be different" if all the examples were from third world and historical examples.

But you kind of need like, a reason to believe it won't happen this time. And "The rich won't exploit it" is not even a reason. It's just utter denial.

"We abolished the ruling class" would be a reason to think "Okay, we can try this".

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

The libertarian in me is fine with legalization but the Catholic in me is against it as a practice. I still believe relationships should have more meaning than pleasure, like a good part of the world still does.

Nothing says fun like having to compete for a spouse's affection.

"Training for UFC?"
"No, trying to make sure I get to decide what we do Saturday."
