All Lebanese are brown in America. We're weird like that these days.

A lot in Tulsa pass for white. Also they serve booze with middle east food which makes their restaurants better.

Many lebanese look indistinguishable from people native to European soil, but America is weird and has classified clearly "caucasoid" people as brown for hundreds of years now.

Now in Latin America, Lebanese people are considered to be white. Same with the Philippines.

Give me a break. Hezbollah - whose militant wing is a terrorist organization that has committed countless atrocities and indiscriminate attacks on civilians in at least three countries - blames the US for causing Lebanon’s current economic crisis by withholding aid dollars?

Anybody who says a domestic financial crisis is caused by aid donors being too stingy is already suspect. A country (especially one as developed as Lebanon) and its economy shouldn’t be dependent on foreign aid to that degree and if it is, that is a gross failure on the part of the ruling political coalition - which includes Hezbollah.

Not to mention Hezbollah hates the US and demonizes that country constantly in its propaganda. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

My mother is always mistaken for Lebanese despite being a light skinned hispanic woman. There's alot of lebanese and syrian people in our area and many of them not only have light skin but even red or blonde hair too, so they look virtually indistinguishable from "white people." But in America we once thought the Irish and Finns were not white, so of course we now do this to Arabs and Hispanics and Albanians and Bosnians (big reason the albanians and Bosnians aren't white in america is because they're Muslim and once people find out you're Muslim, your whiteness just disappears).

I've read a lot about Lebanon's economic, political and sectarian situations....and I still can never grasp it. It's one of those things that is always just such an intricate mess of interwoven dumpster fires, and I just frankly feel bad for the country and it's admittedly very kind, very welcoming people.

Very few good political actors in Lebanon.

It's hella suspect that the Lebanese government is run by former militia members, many of whom have probably killed people personally. Hezbollah has been on the wrong side of history during these protests.

The Lebanese could be an amazing country if their political elites, banks and corporations were weakly cocksuckers. They could get alot of tourism if they were able to stabilize the country and get a real government (not a bunch of corrupt warlords posing as a government).

Hezbollah used to portray itself as fighting for Lebanon against "zionism" but nowadays they seem to be fighting against Lebanon. Maybe they always were.

My best friend's relatives have unfortunately accepted their fate in Lebanon, noting that his family would've been considered as upper-middle-class in Lebanon. I feel very bad for his relatives from Lebanon as they are one of the kindest people I've ever met. It is very unfortunate with what is happening in Lebanon due to corruption, especially how his relatives no longer have the money as the majority don't and mixing the pandemic, makes things a lot worse, as what I'd like to consider it, they've now entered the Blackhole, possibly not returning as it was before. I am concerned about the potential civil war that Lebanon will pose, given how divided they are in Lebanon with religion, given his family are Greek Orthodox and Syria in this case. :(

So the son of a Hezbollah leader filmed himself and his gang raping a 13 year old Syrian refugee.
Hezbollah is trying to keep the charges from being pressed against the perpetrators of the rape.

With people like that leading the country is this really surprising?

Think something like prewar Fallout, minus the bad stuff.

Hezbollah is defending a guy who raped a teenage boy. Of course thats what they do.

Hezbollah doesn't even seem like a jihadist terror group anymore. They just seem like low level scumfucks these days who seek to maximize suffering within Lebanon.

The sectarian divide largely disappeared during this protest. The main divide there is the citizenry and the government.

Also Hezbollah: Well yeah some of our members stole several thousand dollars from the treasury but give them a break. They got a, uh, disease. You know doctors say Captagon addiction is like a disease and we should treat it, not punish it. Besides, it's only seven thousand dollars. It isn't like they stole ALL of the money.
