So you may as well get rid of reddit. I'm subscribed to the new York giants subreddit, is that an evil anti-eagles echo chamber, or are the people there just correct?

Sport fandoms are fine and are separate things. Echo chambers turn political decisions into sport fandoms where the object is to get the other team as pissed off as possible, not to solve social and economic problems.

Nukeing reddit is not the answer, nukeing toxic sub reddits where political echo chambers form is.

I too conflate the two. Neither should be banned from online platforms.

Tbh yes.

But geting rid of these ones is one step in the right direction. Echo chambers are trash.

Unfortunately, banning echo chambers on Reddit will just result in them migrating to sites like Voat or those of their own creation.

For example, r/femaledatingstrategy, which specifically tries to block a certain half of the population from coming in and is undoubtedly a huge echo chamber because of that, has created a new website to move to with a sign-up process designed to more efficiently screen out male users if their subreddit is banned.

It's just creating even more isolated echo chambers.

I used to think in that kind of thinking but now I don't agree with it.

The "they will just go somewhere else to do there thing" point is countered by saying so what? Go do it somewhere else. Then get banned there too.

Everyone will need to do there part to remove any echo chambers from anywhere.

It will take constant observation and moderation to make sure that discourse doesn't turn into just one opinion repeated over and over, getting more extreme each time.

Every single case will be different and require alot of work to decide what is the limit of too far.

It will not be easy and requires a lot of work. But that is what needs to be done to have open and free debates that don't turn into echo chambers.

Again, sense I don't go on these subs I have no right to judge on this information.

People that do need to take a step back and watch for say a month and see if these subs are indeed echo chambers. Then moderate them properly. If they can't do that then nuke them.

Fair internet moderation is the most mentally straining thing I've ever encountered.

That being said, sites like Reddit have been banning people in a streak recently, or allowing DMCA to take them out. It's not....fair internet moderation as much as it is just corporate whacking.

Sometimes there's a limit to what you can do with DMCA though. I'm an old hand at spinning DMCA requests out as long as possible, but there comes a point where you have to accept defeat. What can't be excused though is just taking the copyright trolls word for it.

Sites like stormfront are often prevented from being accessed by ISPs in many countries. If reddit becomes a site that openly tolerates hatred against particular groups instead of being a broad platform, why shouldn't it be blocked by service providers?
