There's long been concerns about online discourse. The social media companies are responding in the midst of a moral panic so the standards they're adopting aren't very well put together and some of those getting deleted as a result have probably been treated unfairly.

We're in a culture war in which each side can often barely remember the other is human so people's ideas of what "should" be banned are way out of step with each other. Boycott campaigns and outrage-farming are going to be the order of the day, so we should expect more knee-jerkery in the future.

If they were actually banning all hate subreddits, they would have banned r/Sino, where posts with racist attacks against white people, Indians, and Russians get upvoted on a daily basis, along with support for the Uyghur genocide and "Gassing the Hong Kong protestors"

Surely then the only reasonable step (and I accept that reason has completely gone out of the window) is to adopt the policy that both sides of a given debate may be right and may be wrong, and that it's not the job of a tech company to judge either way?

ChapoTrapHouse isn’t the only leftist sub that got banned, many leftist subs that opposed China were banned as well, and subreddits without any Nazis were banned basically for wrongthink, r/rightwingLGBT was banned for example.

I've been told, however, that it's nothing compared to the shit that you get for being right-wing and an ethnic minority.
