If Trump was smart, Russia would have a nasty accident quite soon.
Then in October he'd reveal it wasn't really an accident.

We didn't know they were bad back then. It was morally justified to support them against the Soviets, though a democratic opposition would've been better.

Taking out a key Russian ally like Iran would be a good start.

Yep. This is the perfect route to take. Unfortunately the Trump administration is too cowardly to do that.

This kind of international thuggery should not be tolerated by any President of the United States.

We don’t need to waste thousands of American lives and trillions of dollars waging war against Iran.

What did they sign up for? They should be prepared to give their lives for the security of their country and the world.

I doubt that many soldiers signing up would be happy to know that also means they've volunteered to be to be kamikaze pilots.

I’ve always suspected the Russians were colluding with the Taliban on a low level, including helping funnel them weapons and ammunition. The CIA did it so well when the Russians were in Afghanistan I find it hard to believe they aren’t capable of doing the same thing.

So this is not really news to me. I think it’s not news to Trump either. What would you have him do? There’s nothing he can do to stop the practice. Russia is already an antagonistic country towards the US, making a diplomatic hubbub about it will change nothing.

In another "war of liberation" in a far away land that has little to do with security for the homeland.

Appropriate satire video.

On the actual topic, remember, guys, a national government paying non-governmental organisations for military struggle against a regional rival is only a bad thing when the other guys are doing it.

The Russian intelligence unit behind the attempted murder in Salisbury of the former double agent Sergei Skripal secretly offered to pay Taliban-linked fighters to kill British and American soldiers in Afghanistan, according to US reports.

According to US reports, Saddam Hussein was about to build nuclear weapons in 2002.

So, the same program that actually paved the way for the Taliban's rise to power?

No. It merely cannot be trusted, neither as wrong nor as right. The US have a long history of creating fake "incidents" to justify wars. Tonkin gulf anyone?

The Taliban were not involved in the Soviet Afghan war. The Soviets left Afghanistan in 1989, the Taliban did not exist until 1994.

Although sure the US supported some anti Soviet forces (primarily the Tajiks, the Taliban are mostly Pashtun anyways) at that point we were not pretending to be anything but rivals of and opposed to the Soviets. The issue is not so much Russia engaging in such actions, but the fact the we still import stuff from and cooperate with Russia, and we and them both claim we are not enemies. We should just be honest Putin our enemy and want us to suffer the same fate the Soviets did, and stop trying to be his friend. Until he changes his ways.

And a diplomatic hubby can do something. Note how Russia is adamantly denying it, they do not want us talking about it, so we should. Because Russia has friends in Europe and India who are not thrilled with the idea.
And we still have room to extend sanctions.

If Russia did do this, and we do nothing, Russia will do more of it.
Russia only respects strength, and exploits any sign of inaction or weakness.
They respect only the hammer, so they need a sanctions and diplomatic hammering over this.

The US is not looking to start a war with Russia, obviously.

I mean, he doesn't care about our troops. This is public knowledge. He spits, pisses, and shits on our troops regularly. No respect for veterans, active duty, POWs, or even the fallen. He doesn't give a fuck. He is without a doubt the most anti-military president we've ever had.
