Karl Marx, you already know why
Subcomandante Marcos (& comrades) because I'm a massive EZLN stan and I share a lot of my political views with them
Rosa Luxemburg for the danger she put herself in by criticizing both the system and the revisionists within the communist movement.
Peter Kropotkin for abandoning his title as a prince to join the revolutionary movement and promote anarcho-communism
Eugene V. Debs for his outspokenness and bravery, as well as for founding the IWW and bringing attention to American leftism
If I named any more you'd end up with a long list of civil rights leaders and political theorists so I'm gonna stop here.

I don't entirely agree with any of these people, but they're all still awesome (and mostly right).

Dwight Eisenhower is the first one who comes to mind. Teddy Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, John Kennedy, and George H.W. Bush are some others that I admire some works of. Of course these are all past U.S. presidents, The list of foreign or lesser politicians would be even longer.

Bayard Rustin and Majid Arslan.

Rustin because he's an unsung hero of the Civil Rights era. A gay Black man who organized many of MLK's activities while dealing with rampant homophobia at the time. He's an inspiration for me to not give up alongside Majid Arslan who played a major role in Lebanese independence
What if America, but hyper progressive? Universal healthcare, Walkable cities, outdoor culture, and $1 Trillion military budget because we're the best. CIA love Teddy Roosevelt and the environment enough to torture Oil executives. Our conservatives shoot Klansmen, our liberals punch Nazis

In no particular order except perhaps chronological:

Thomas Jefferson: disliked centralized power, distrusted pretty much everyone who actively sought power, was tolerant of the fact that others may have different views (see the "neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg" quote).

Calvin Coolidge: Laissez-faire economics and some early commitments to the ideals of racial equality. Probably not to the extent we would prefer today, but for the 1920s was definitely a forward-thinker on that issue.

Herbert Hoover: Hoover is mostly on this list because I'm an engineer and he's the only President with an engineering background, lol.

Dwight Eisenhower: strove to contain communism, attempted with mixed results to reduce budget deficits, signed Civil Rights Act of 1957, created NASA (albeit out of NACA), created Interstate Highway System. Viewed military-industrial complex with suspicion. Kept Patton in useful roles in Europe during WWII, leading to the Third Army absolutely tearing across southern Germany.

Barry Goldwater: not my favorite politician ever but as someone who falls somewhere between pre-Trump conservatism and libertarianism (I usually just say I'm a classical liberal) I can respect a lot of what Goldwater stood for. Supported the NAACP, wanted gays to serve openly in the military, but also opposed the creation of the welfare state.

Ronald Reagan: while I don't deify Reagan the way quite a few of my political fellows do, part of my respect for him is not so much for his views as it is for his absolutely masterful communication skills. The man always knew his audience and how to best reach them, and that's not always a skill that can be learned.

Kyrsten Sinema: she's not my Senator -- I don't live in Arizona -- and I don't agree with quite a few of her views, but I can respect a politician who's willing to reach across the aisle and compromise in the interest of getting something done, especially in times of increased polarization like these.

Joe Angelo. I could talk about the Bonus Army and all that, but tbh the main reason is just cause he stood up to the humongous prick Patton.

Also William Jennings Bryan, for anti-imperialism and Free Silver. Not for the creationist stuff though. And also because fuck McKinley.

And Juan Carlos I, for obvious reasons.

Rose Luxemburg and Mohandas Karamchad Ghandi since they align the most with my political Views.

Hitler and Stalin for being able to rule so ruthlessly and effectively and wielding the entire might of the greatest nations of this time period basically on their own.

Also emperor Aurelian for being the fricking "restorer of the world" Now thats a cool title

I don't believe in the approach to historical politics where individuals are made out to be pure embodiments of a political principle. That kind of approach is idolatry and a more detailed analysis of the person's life will reveal them to be flawed like any human - you cannot rest too much on these things.

That being said, I am interested in and admire aspects of the lives/theory/foresight of the following (no particular order): Otto Strasser, Henri de Man, Friedrich Ebert, Nye Bevan, Oswald Mosley, Enoch Powell, Robert Owen.

If we are looking further back then I quite like Marcus Aurelius and Diocletian.
Are these "human rights" in the room with us right now?

I agree.

Oliver Cromwell's courageous political defeat of royal autocracy is to be admired, though he was a bad tempered demagogue whose military campaigns in Ireland are now regarded as war crimes.
