People like her prove Aurrementera wrong on their claim that only 5% of americans are racists. I am too old and too brown to accept that idea and I've had way too many people either view me in their head as a low wage immigrant or criminal to believe that.

This comes one day after a friend of mine's mother called me a lazy Mexican and asked him if I even work at all, despite the fact that I work two essential jobs, 52 hours a week, while she works 15 hours a week cleaning out adult diapers. I'm not about to be disrespected by someone whose job involves clearing shit.

That's sadly America's history. We as a country always want to point to a specific group, usually the largest immigrant group at the time (see Irish, Chinese, Italian) and give them "unAmerican" stereotypes like being lazy, a threat to Protestant America, taking our jerbs, etc. You know the saying "Facts don't care about your feelings"? Apparently the morons who sprout it the most are the most emotional, especially when you bring up Hispanics in the US bring in $700B a year to the US Economy and there are 4.4 Million Latino business owners in the country. We're far from "lazy" (both lazy and stealing jobs?) but hey, stupid be stupid and coming from someone with some Hispanic ancestry (albeit White Passing af), people like that have some indescribable insecurities made worse with a worse version of President Camacho sprouting his bs.

There's no such thing as a white hispanic in America (except Ted Cruz). White is a social category that isnt just based on appearance alone and is often based on culture too. There's many white passing arabs but people still think of them as "Arab." Theres Albanians with blonde hair and blue eyes but because theyre muslim and just came here, they're racialized as an other. At day's end, being white passing may protect you from a random person in the street attacking you while you pass them by, but when you apply for a job or when you're pulled over by cops, they can still see your name.

No. I'm not a professor and while I'm fine with taking fun titles I'm only a consultant for this and it's more likely then not what I've written will became reference material or edited down for space. I'm not going to tread on proper professors toes in this regard.

Besides I don't really want to be a teacher, I like being a Ranger and an educator but teaching? So much paper work...

There's many white passing arabs but people still think of them as "Arab." Theres Albanians with blonde hair and blue eyes but because theyre muslim and just came here, they're racialized as an other. At day's end, being white passing may protect you from a random person in the street attacking you while you pass them by, but when you apply for a job or when you're pulled over by cops, they can still see your name.

Not gonna argue "White Hispanic", but yes, I do get treated differently than my darker skinned Latino/Arab friends. Within Hispanic circles, the lighter skinned ones are often the 'face' of the culture and that translate into US pop culture when it involves Hispanics. However, I have a gut feeling I'll be treated slightly better on paper if I had a Spanish surname instead of an Arabic one since the US is more suspicious of Arabs than Latinos.
