Polybius sounds like any other 80s arcade game name, so that might be intentional.

Honestly, urban legends fascinate me for this reason. It can be hard to pin down how, when, or why they were created, if those questions can even be answered in the first place.
Really interesting.

For a time I thought it was an arcade game my mom liked to play when I was a child. I remember that you would use a ball instead of buttons or a joystick to play. But I of course found out later that it wasn’t the same game. Because Polybuis is just a well crafted urban legend.

You say "played with a ball instead of a joystick" and I immediately think of Missle Command

The advantage to creating a fake arcade game is there are plenty of arcade games that did appear in one arcade, was pulled for some reason, then was never seen again with no proof other then some kids in the 80s remember playing it once.

I know, right? And fond memories too. Even if they’re fabricated. *sigh*

There was a wire frame submarine game I played a lot as a kid that neither of my brothers remember us having. But they were to little at the time we had it to remember the first trip to England and we have pictures of that so I don't trust the two of them.

Yes, I do indeed. it's not from watching hamilton, either.
he was a orphan who graduated from king's college in 2 years, which was mindblowing.
he was a very, very good lawyer, and was Vice President under Thomas Jefferson after Hamilton ruined his career.

Shooting Hamilton ruined his career. Jefferson went after him later.

I’m reading about the Cooper Family photo, by the way. According to hoaxes.org the photo was probably invented in the late 2000s and the story came a few years later (searching myself, it looks like the story comes from 2009 as well). No clue where the original family photo comes from though.

Great little piece of horror art.

I’m sure there’s some websites or subreddits or whatever to help find old games, if they exist. People like that kinda stuff.

Because I have nothing better to do:
Suicide Mission has wireframe/vector-ish graphics and came on a tape
and Polar Rescue has complete wireframe/vector graphics but was a Vectrex game, a console I've never heard of that didn't use tapes

If neither of these games are the ones you played, I haven't a clue.

I've searched for years, there's nothing I can find on it. I'm certain that it must have been some sort of South African or British homebrew for the Commodore 64.

There's this magazine article from the 80s that mentions Sea War, a cassette-based game made in England, but I can't find any images or videos or even mentions of it beyond this one article.

It probably exists, but it's definitely difficult to find. The generic 80s game name doesn't help.

It might not exist anymore, too. That happens.

I've tried to look for this game before and now I definitely know what I'm looking for. In my head I've combined Elite with either a pirated version or someone's homebrew copy of Sea War.

Abolitionism in the North has leagued itself with Radical Democracy, and so the Slave Power was forced to ally itself with the Money Power; that is the great fact of the age.
