Lord Paget, then the Earl of Uxbridge, was a commander at Waterloo under Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington. Near the end of the battle one of the last French cannon shots ripped past Arthur Wellesley after which Uxbridge exclaimed, "By God, sir, I've lost my leg!" Wellesley looked over to the Earl and said back, "By God, sir, so you have!"

Better to have an enemy bayonet you to your face than to have your friend use your back for their knife's sheath.

But seriously, having a 100% historically accurate uniform and kit is awesome. It's just expensive as hell. I rented a musket from a reenacting group when I used to do it. The problem isn't that though honestly, it's the reenacters who single out those without the time or money, or those just starting out and make them feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. It's the whole reason the reenacting community is dying at the moment, hard to attract young people passionate about history when you treat them like shit for showing up.

I talk to a lot of revolutionary war reenactors, they say they have a hard time getting kids interested in the hobby. Right before I had to write tuition checks I was thinking about joining, but muskets ain't cheap, and I had to write tuition checks.

I know a few reenactors myself, they do the Eighty Year War and the Napoleonic era. It most certainly ain't a cheap hobby, but it does encourage you to become creative. Many items of your outfit can be handmade if you are willing to take the time for it. This commonly does not include the weaponry, of course.

Was this civil war reenactment in the states because I dont see why there would be an American Civil War reenactment in Zimbabwe, much less why Zimbabweans would be arguing about whether the American Civil War was about slavery or not.

Fr tho we ought to have another country's civil war reenactment here sometime. Invite people, sell tickets and when they show up they get confused as they watch a reenactment of the Lebanese Civil War and not the American one, out here like "why are they wearing cammo? There wasn't cammo in military uniforms during the Civil War. Man this reenactment sucks. And why are they speaking Mexican?"

I wanna go back to Dixie
Take me back to dear ol' Dixie
That's the only li'l ol' place for li'l ol' me
Ol' times there are not forgotten
Whuppin' slaves and sellin' cotton
And waitin' for the Robert E. Lee

I'll go back to the Swanee
Where pellagra makes you scrawny
And the Honeysuckle clutters up the vine
I really am a-fixin'
To go home and start a-mixin'
Down below that Mason-Dixon line!

Firstly reenactment doesn't ever have to be in the country a conflict occurred in. https://twitter.com/Lion_roundtop/statu ... 8950960129

I've lived in America for a decade. I don't know anyone who'd want to do a Bush War reenactment but there's WW2 and Vietnam ones so what do I know.

What’s the budget for this re-enactment?

Did the Army of the Potamac get to March around in large, endless columns of handsome blue uniforms and caps? With the drums beating (marching drummers), the US flag poles raised high and the officers leading on horseback with swords?

Could the soldiers line up with replica muskets and fire smoky blanks en mass?

Did you have replica artillery?

I believe that the deletion of posts that reveal identifiable information about yourself IRL can also be requested.

Send a ghr request. It will be more of a pain for them, but those posts can be sanitized too.

That is something they try and be good about. The site doesn't want anyone's personal information floating about.

That's pretty accurate, I think. I don't know how it works in other countries, but in the US, yes, they typically fire musket and artillery blanks. The guns they use typically are also capable of firing live rounds. IIRC, you can legally own muzzleloading artillery in the US.
