Volunteer for an organisation that helps vulnerable families (remember to protect yourself), you could (as Ethel suggest) work in a soup kitchen, ask your parents if you could donate food your family won't be using to a charity that will distribute it or (if you get an allowance), you could opt to use some of that to buy a little food to donate yourself. If you can bake, maybe you could bake something and sell it to family and friends? Look up fundraising ideas online and see what might be practical for you, knowing your skills (maybe you could work with a friend to do something?)

You don't have to do everything yourself. Charities will appreciate it if you do just a little.

A little wouldn't just solve everything. Luckily my more creative atheist friend offered to help, and she might have some ideas.

Although it is a little disappointing that she wanted to help, and none of my Christian friends did.

A little life lesson, if you try and solve everything, nothing gets done. Only do what you can, do your piece, that is all anyone can ask.

The parable of the starfish applies

Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean for exercise.

One day, the old man was walking along a beach that was littered with thousands of starfish that had been washed ashore by the high tide. As he walked he came upon a young boy who was eagerly throwing the starfish back into the ocean, one by one.

Puzzled, the man looked at the boy and asked what he was doing.

The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the boy replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

Hmm, I was expecting modern music. The only sin this song has committed is aging.

Every generation tends to have different musical tastes, psychologically humans experience music they like the most in their late teens and early twenties and this music remains the music they like the most. Hence why nostalgia in music is a big thing and older people reminisce greatly about 80s music while younger people don't really care about 80s music and have only maybe heard the biggest hits from then if anything.

That being said, the song you linked isn't terrible music, its just outdated. Though we're curious to find out what modern (10s, 20s) music you think is terrible.

I haven't listened to modern music since Hey There Delilah and Hey, Soul Sister. I think it's gotten worse since I was that young. :lol2:

Personally not a fan of kpop, especially given that a fair bit of the fanbase end up being quite toxic. Gangnam Style wasn't too bad, but a lot of it feels more like a manufactured product rather than something I can enjoy.

Most of what I listen to is from the 90s, but there's still a fair bit of good music around today.

My personal favourite from the 2010s falls between Passenger and Death Grips. Passenger is a great songwriter, the kind of person you'd want to talk to a lot. This is a good example. You'd be hard pressed to find any Death Grips song that sounds the same and I think that's important in music: to put yourself out there, even if the ideas you come up with seem insane.

Other ones from this decade I like are Vektroid, Alestorm, Blood Orange (who I came across today), Blank Banshee, Periphery and Birdeatsbaby.

I like Passenger's music. Good stuff. Really love Shape of Love with Boy and Bear

Also just learned Passenger released a new album this year *adds to long list of music to listen to*

Plenty of fantastic 'modern music' from the past decade or two. Just need to find what you like.

Several villages/towns in Finland have road named "American byroad/village road" which makes me wonder if those were roads where locals took their first steps to the New World Wayback when. :lol2:

Might've left once when they were smaller places, but not really any more it seems.
One wrench on my hypothesis is that Kuopio's "American byroad" has "Canadian alley", "French byroad" and "German alley" branching from it.
