I'm sure that if there had been a genuine technical problem that had prevented you from choosing in time then the faculty would have understood and would have let you remedy it. I doubt they would have said "haha sucks to be you, now you are just getting dumped in whatever classes we want you in, regardless of the fact it wasn't your fault."
