That mindset lead to the abortion of 30+ million supposed to be baby girls in China because men are more respected and higher earners. Leaving a massive sex/gender gap in the youngest population and boys who are so spoiled by their parents (Because they felt so lucky and grateful at not having a girl) that a lot of them aren't really capable of functioning in society.

India's going through a similar issue, with the government in multiple states trying to pay families not to abort their soon to be daughter or learn the sex before birth.

That's part of the issue, but it's still happening despite the alleviation of the policy and is happening in areas of Asia that aren't China.

You should know there's almost always more than 1 reason for a societal problem.

The children also are there to grow, just as you and I have. While they are young, weak, growing, us, as adults owe them our care and protection. When we are old weak and dying they pay it back.

I did some research on this several years back and at its core it is largely an economic problem.

Boys are culturally required to support their parents in their old age. So a boy means you get to have a retirement. Girls are not, so having a girl means old age poverty and/or work until you die.

There’s a couple ways to fix it. You could make girls have the same social responsibility (not ideal) or you could institute a social security-like system for the elderly like we do. This actually has major economic benefits to productivity because we don’t have nearly as many impoverished elderly folks living with younger family who have to care for them.

The history class wanted the girls to roleplay as Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With the Wind or some other obsolete gendered archetype for women that isn't around much anymore in the present. Then it was cancelled when it was realized it unfortunately, has too much risk for backfiring or misunderstandings from certain people or interest groups.

If history is any guide, I'd be willing to bet that eventually, our societies will regress back towards the gender roles being more like how it was in the past once again. These things seem to go in cycles. If enough circumstances change to where women can't work in the workplace as much anymore, because of climate change; or maybe men will take the place of women in staying at home too much from there being fewer male dominated industries remaining going forward.

The lesson called for them to dress in "a feminine manner to please the men" and to "address all men respectfully by title, with a lowered head and curtsy." It instructed them to "never criticize a male," "initiate a conversation" or "whine." It directed them to "walk behind men or walk daintily, as if their feet were bound." And they were told to cook, clean and "obey any reasonable request of a male. If not sure if it is considered reasonable, ladies can check with their teachers.”

Students could continue the actions at home.

"Fathers and adult males may insist on following the rules into the evening," according to the assignment.

“Outside the classroom, ladies cannot show intellectual superiority if it would offend the men around them."

Bonus points were offered for every adult signature proving they "were worthy of the honor by the gentlemen."

Birth control is getting so complex, with everything from weird devices in a woman's private area to what you described. I mean people should be able to do what they wanna do but I just think it's so much simpler to go down to the store and buy a pack of Trojan.

You're right on vasectomies, btw. Most doctors (in the US at least) will not give a vasectomy without spousal consent unless the man is at least 35-40 years old and has no spouse.

Well it’s a bit more than that

Single daily oral doses of triptonide induce altered sperm having minimal or no forward motility with close to 100% penetrance and consequently male infertility in 3-4 and 5-6 weeks. Once the treatment is stopped, the males become fertile again in ~4-6 weeks, and can produce healthy offspring.

You're right on vasectomies, btw. Most doctors (in the US at least) will not give a vasectomy without spousal consent unless the man is at least 35-40 years old and has no spouse.

My Dad got one, though he had already two children (after the birth of my younger sister)

I remember looking through threads on childfree forums talking about sterilization, it was especially harder to get tubals because of doctors' "concerns" with cis women's fertility, though it was not uncommon for some to have uncooperative doctors and surgeons. The /r/childfree subreddit has a list of supportive doctors for this reasons, otherwise most would only operate if the patient has had kids or they will usually have an age limit, though often upper 20s to 30s.

Voluntary sterilization should be pursued. Meanwhile, if I want certain surgeries myself I would need one to two letters. My mother didn't need to do that when she had the same kind of "cosmetic" surgeries that some trans women get (breast augmentation in particular, though it's not as common as double mastectomy in trans men, mind you)

Bodily autonomy is paramount and should be supported by all feminists, even non-feminists too.
