Better yet just turn off the water there.
yes good idea, turn off water to the hundreds of residents of the apartments in the area who aren't associated with the demonstrators as well as the dozens of small businesses who are just going about their lives
literally what is up with these unhinged "LAY SIEGE TO THEM" responses, people it is a damn protest calm down

Well they just declared autonomy clearly getting their own water is part of the deal.
Or did they declare autonomy without the people who actually live their's consent ?

Yes, it is a protest, but have they given any indication of returning power to the Seattle government? If not, it is more than a protest.

Other than the fact your article is behind a paywall, it's also an opinion piece as stated below the title.

it's part meme, part protest/mutual aid center, and everything was fine till the far right in other parts of the country heard about it, decided it was the Paris Commune reborn, and is now whipping up a media frenzy of fabrication and insanity that might just have the unfortunate consequence of putting pressure of local officials to needlessly escalate a situation that in fact demands zero urgency or violence

And then if things get escalated CHAZ would probably exercise their second amendment rights and form a... militia.

It seems pretty plausible to me the way you describe it.
Meanwhile both rightist and communists have an interest in heavily extragrating and whipping up a media frenzy over it for their own purposes and make it all around bigger and more dramatic than it is.

Yeah there's definitely a couple (mostly white lol) syndie types who're there who like, genuinely think they ARE the Paris Commune reborn... but they're not hurting anyone (very much unlike the Paris Commune lol) so it's no skin off anyone's back to let them LARP while random activists give their speeches and protesters mill around
but in fact "barricade" =/= "revolutionary commune"
