"Sucks" is probably too harsh. It's cheap as hell, and worth what you pay for it. I genuinely like it better than Papa John's - I don't like Papa John's sauce; too sweet - and it remains edible when cold, unlike Pizza Hut.

I only ever eat it at our Battletech game, though. At home, I just eat frozen pizzas from the grocery store. They're both cheaper and better, and it actually takes less time and effort to pop one in the oven and set a timer than to order from Little Caesar's and go pick it up.

Oh, I love the Costco pizzas.

I also like their chicken bakes.

Other than some caramelized onion (I think) near the edge, I can't see any toppings at all. I can see bread base through the tomato sauce, rather a long way in from the rim.

How is that "a good amount" of toppings?

Crust doesn't look all that firm either. I'm not sure I'd pay $2 for this.

No toppings, no onions. I couldn’t find a good quality picture of the pizza that would fit. It’s just cheese.

Crisped cheese on the edge then. NOT A PIZZA. But that's OK I'm not hungry now :)

A hard crust is an affront to good pizzas.

Do they still have the free to play/trial PlayStation games? Or is that long gone?

The trial games are now gone there. I still love sampling their churros every now and then as well as the frozen yogurt.

But... then I remembered that I do very occasionally order delivery from Zooba, a small 'healthy modern' Egyptian street food chain in Cairo, and that Zooba has recently expanded to New York City (!).

So if you live in Cairo or New York - not the most obvious combination, I admit - here's what 'healthy modern Egyptian street food' looks like: https://order.zoobaeats.com/zooba/menu (New York) or https://www.zoobaeats.com/egypt-menu/ (Cairo; in English). They're much the same, but the New York menu has pictures.

Liver with some fava beans... do they have a wine list?

Alas, no nice Chianti; but I was mildly surprised that the New York franchise sells beer. Clearly the owners are prepared to be pragmatic for the American market. It's not as if alcohol is banned here in Cairo (in fact I'm having a glass of wine while typing this), but you wouldn't find it at somewhere like Zooba. If you want wine or beer with a more traditional take on Egyptian food in Cairo, then Abou el Sid is the place to go. But that's a sit-down restaurant, not a fast-food outlet, so outside the purview of this thread.

Why? The secret to not stepping inside a McDonalds is to just not go inside; it's hardly difficult.

Not quite; the real secret to not stepping inside a McDonalds is the knowledge that you can make much better food at home.

Tonight was roast aubergine/eggplant and courgette/zucchini with sumac and herbs, served on lentils and with a dollop of Greek yogurt on top (no, I'm not vegetarian, but I don't always eat meat). It was both easy and delicious.

No doubt fast food hits the spot for some; I have nothing against it. But why go to McDonalds when the food I cook for myself is invariably so much better?

If anyone's interested, dinner tomorrow night is a smoked salmon and wheatberry salad with apples and celery.

I love eating homemade meals, especially the Chinese cuisine my parents make everyday (I've been having these meals for quite a while especially due to the pandemic).

10% of the population are Christian, and a large percentage of local Muslims are ... relaxed about their own alcohol consumption.

It's not like Dubai, where we needed a licence to buy alcohol from the limited number of government-approved outlets when we were living there. Here anyone can buy alcohol, no questions asked.

The downside is that with a couple of tricky exceptions, the only alcohol you can buy in Egypt is Egyptian alcohol. At least in Dubai we could buy imported wine and beer once we had a licence. Most Egyptian wine is awful (the exception is Beausoleil, the only winery not part of the former government monopoly), and most beer is standard international lager (unsurprising since the only brewery company is managed by Heineken), but it's freely available except on Fridays and during Ramadan. The less said about Egyptian spirits, the better.

The tricky exceptions mentioned above are duty free shops on the way in to Egypt (where it's possible to buy some imported alcohol) and some of the top hotels, where imported wine is available for eye-watering prices.

But perhaps we're in danger of going off-topic....

Oh God, no.

I've had fish and chips more recently than I've had McDonalds. Done right, the fish can be magnificent. But the chips... <shudders>

Let's just remember that I spent some of my childhood in Belgium. Why would I choose lank and limp British chips over crisp and fluffy Belgian frites?

Taco Bell or Wendy's
What I can get there is almost decent, and not necessarily super greasy.
Bean burritos and plain baked potatoes! And I could buy 5 kg of each and fix it myself for as much as one meal!

I do not consider chain pizza either fast food or decent.

McDonald's is just a public restroom that happens to sell used kitchen grease with some former food soaking most of it up.
