Not as doubtful as you think, in my humble opinion.

You have too much faith in him. He's a narcissist through and through, and anyone who tells him to stand down will be thrown under the bus with Powell, Bush, Romney, Murkowski, Kelly, Bolton, Mattis, Cohen, Amash, Bannon, Beck, McCain, Kasich, and Lord knows who else who haven't become or remained the "yes" men he wanted.

I'm not a libertarian, but it saddens me that they keep kneecapping themselves with their candidates. Biden campaign opposes calls to 'defund the police'. Biden instead supports funding of community policing programs that work to improve relations between police and communities, as well as diversifying police departments. He also backs the use of police body cameras.

Which in my view is the smart move: despite what has transpired, defunding the police goes too far. Reforming the police and throwing out the bad apples though is much more sensible and practical. Of course, that hasn't stopped Republicans from misrepresenting a few radicals as the whole Democratic Party (and excuse not to back police reforms):

Democrats have largely embraced calls to reform police departments, but have stopped short of endorsing calls to defund police. Republicans have seized on the issue to argue Democrats are going too far with their calls for reforms.

Trump and Republicans have worked to promote a message of law and order amid the protests. The Trump campaign tied Biden to the calls to defund police departments on Monday.

“As the protesters like to say, silence is agreement,” Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh said on a conference call with reporters. “By his silence Joe Biden is endorsing defunding the police.”

I honestly don't see it working as well as they think, especially when a majority are backing the protesters and currently rejecting their "Law & Order" approach.

How quickly tides change...Over in North Bronx-Westchester, Eliot Engel's acting fairly desperate, accusing AOC of trying to "anoint" his successor: https://www.yahoo.com/news/not-dictatorship-democratic-congressman-accuses-160531841.html

He brought this on himself, though. Saying that you wouldn't care to have a conversation on BLM during a time of heightened racial awareness due to police brutality isn't the thing to say when you represent the fucking Bronx.

"We shouldn't have one person, from high, even though she's a colleague of mine, think that she can anoint whoever is elected to Congress," Engel said.

Translation:

"I deserve this House seat! Nobody should run against me because this seat is mine!"

I hope he loses and never serves elected office again.

It would be a hell of a change of he does. He's been in the House as long as I've been in this world, 32 years. It takes a huge shift in public opinion to remove someone who's been in that long.

Its not without precedent. Emanuel Celler who served in Congress for almost 50 years lost his primary in 1972 to Elizabeth Holtzman

I don't think so either, but I can guarantee he's going to try his hand in staging multiple court battle after court battle, lawsuit after lawsuit, maybe even bring it to the SC all the while his fervent supporters get more and more aggravated.

I'm worried about violence more than anything from a Trump loss.

Well, don't emotionally hold yourself hostage to the idea of it. It's not gonna happen that way. SL is right. The military et al will take orders from Biden at that moment. It's all about the constitution. Top military brass have been talking about their constitutional restraints ever since the military was misused to clear Lafayette Park last week. They'll do what is their lawful duty when the day comes. And they'll signal to Trump in advance not to dare try anything.

Writing in USS Trumptanic or Trump Gothic on the ballot may be considered childish. But casting this crayola vote is a form of colorful protest however performed by the upcoming generation of political cartoonists ...such as we see them.

Trump has announced he will restart campaign rallies in two weeks. I am not certain if there is anything governors or mayors can legally do to stop him.

The thing is, the Constitution is very clear about how presidential succession happens.

If Al Gore was given a December 12 DNR date by the SCOTUS, there's no reason to believe that Trump won't be.
