eh

not really that important

the caucuses aren't going to be hurt if one of their members doesn't sit on any committees. The only problem would be opportunity cost of them not having a good rep in that seat, but that isn't so painful really

We shall see what happens when she wins. maybe they will place her on committees but on ones with little real power.

I think we can safely assume from Harris being the Veep that Biden wants Rice at State.

Former presidential candidate John McAfee has been arrested in Norway for wearing a thong as a face mask

His wife, Janice, then took over his Twitter account and said she’d managed it “until he escapes (usual method), bribes someone (very quick – might be out in a few hours), retains the right lawyer (will be a few days) or becomes warden of the jail, in which case we will have to force him out.”

Yes.

In an update to the aforementioned story, McAfee is out of prison now and is apparently on his way to Belarus, where, I hope, we can still see President McAfee 2020

Well, with the two remaining races both unlikely to yield results in November, and with Connecticut in particular probably not finishing until Thursday, I think this is as good a time as any to call the night. Another round of primaries comes before us in the next seven days, so here's my take on next week and later this week, starting with Sunday.

Puerto Rico: This....what a mess Puerto Rico's had. 50 of the territory's 110 polling places never got their ballots delivered by the CEE(the island election authority), so an emergency extension was called for next week for the remaining spots. I can't say for sure how this will change any minds on the island, but I'm not going to make any more projections beyond those I made last week at this time except that the CEE better get its shit together, for they have become a national embarrassment due to their actions that call the vote's legitimacy into question.

On to next Tuesday.

Alaska: Yes, even Alaska has races of interest, though not next week. On the Senate side, Incumbent Republican Dan Sullivan faces two challengers in November, Democratic former Mayor of Seward, founder of Alaska Newspapers, and Former Commerce, Community, and Economic Development Chair Edgar Blatchford, and Independent orthopaedic surgeon and commercial fisherman Al Gross. Gross actually has most of the Democrats of the national party backing him alongside the state party, the CWA, Planned Parenthood, and interestingly enough, the Lincoln Project. Polls show a lot of undecideds between Sullivan and Gross, and in a state where Independents do often win elections, Sullivan still has the edge for victory, but it could shrink.

Over to the At-Large House seat, where the Father of the House, Republican Don Young, is expected to be in the fight of his life after next week thanks to Independent and '18 Challenger Alyse Galvin. Galvin has the Alaska Centre(the Alaska chapter of the League of Conservation Voters), J Street Pac, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Again, Young has the advantage, but Galvin has the momentum and could beat him come November.

Florida: A lot of House races in the eternal swing state, so let's get started with Gainesville-Ocala(3rd). Incumbent Republican Ted Yoho, who recently got criticised by AOC and many others for sexist remarks, is retiring, leaving the seat open. There are four Republicans with a shot at the seat, starting with Yoho's own Deputy Chief of Staff Kat Cammack. Cammack has the support of Rand Paul, the Republican Liberty Caucus, Tea Party Express, Tea Party Patriots, and the Police Benevolent Association. Second, there's former actor(in a single indie comedy-drama from 2014) and CEO of WJ Sapp Railroad Contractors Judson Sapp. He has more of the state party behind him including fellow Congressmen Vern Buchanan, Cliff Stearns, and Former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Campbell as well as other right figures like Dana Loesch and Roger Stone. Third, there's physician James St. George, who has a single congressman endorsing him. Finally, there's Clay County Commissioner Gavin Rollins, who has Florida Family Action in his corner. I think that Cammack will win next week and beat Adam Christensen in November.

Over to St. Petersburg(13th). There are three Republicans vying to unseat Incumbent Democrat and political chameleon Charlie Crist, and the most popular poll-wise is former staffer to Lisa Murkowski Amanda Makki. She has the backing of most national party figures, Freedomworks, the police unions, the NRCC, Maggie's List, and the Republican Main Street Partnership. In second, there's army vet and '18 contender George Buck. He has the support of Vets for Trump and is second in the polls. In third, there's Turning Point USA's Director for Hispanic Engagement Anna Paulina Luna. Besides her boss, Charlie Kirk, she also has Matt Gaetz, former St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster, and Students for Trump on her side. 32% were undecided in the latest poll here, but I think Makki will come out ahead next week and lose to Crist in November.

On to Lakeland(15th). Incumbent Republican Ross Spano faces a challenge in his primary from Lakeland Commissioner Scott Franklin, who has the support of Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. Even though Spiano has the national party behind him, it's expected to be an interesting fight on this side. Over on the Democratic side, there are also two major players. First, there's Alan Cohn, a Peabody and Emmy-winning journalist who's done gigs for ABC, CNN, most of the local and state media outlets and so on. He has the Grahams, Cenk Uygur, the UA(Plumbers and pipefitters), the Teamsters, the Operating Engineers, and the UFCW on his side. Against him is State Rep. Adam Hattersley, who has more state party figures such as Kathy Castor, current St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, the Blue Dog Coalition, the IBEW, and several state party caucuses. I think Hattersley and Spano will win their respective primaries, and Spano will hold out and win a close race in November.

Next stop, Palm Beach-Port St. Lucie(18th). Two Democrats trying to unseat Incumbent Republican Brian Mast here, and the favourite is former State Deputy Solicitor General Oz Vazquez, who has the AFL-CIO, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and Planned Parenthood behind him among others. Not all of them, '18 challenger and former JAG Pam Keith has the support of VoteVets and IVYPAC, but Vazquez will win it and lose to Mast in November.

On to Fort Myers-Naples(19th). Incumbent Republican Francis Rooney is retiring, and there are four significant contenders. In an extremely close first is State Rep. Byron Donalds, who has the backing of the NRA and the Empower America Project. Just behind him is physician William Figlesthaler, who doesn't have major endorsement but does have a pretty hefty war chest more than double the size of Donalds'. In third, there's State House Majority Leader Dane Eagle, and he's got Gus Bilirakis and a variety of state figures behind him. Finally, there's Marine veteran and Askar Family Operations CEO Casey Askar, who has the largest chest of all with nearly $1 million still on hand. A difficult race, and one I'm not comfortable predicting except to say that whomever wins is a shoe-in against Cindy Banyai come November.

Heading out to Key West-Homestead(26th). Incumbent Democrat Debbie Murcasel-Powell won a close race last time around to flip the seat, and the Republicans want to flip it back. Their big champion is Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, who has Trump's blessing. This is a close race, and I think Murcasel-Powell will hold on come November.

Going to Miami-Miami Beach(27th). Nothing really for next week, but Incumbent Democrat Donna Shalala is facing a rematch against her '18 rival Maria Elvira Salazar, one that I think Shalala will win again.

Wyoming: On the Senate side, Incumbent Republican Mike Enzi is retiring, and he and the party have coalesced around former Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis. She'll easily win here and in November.

No. We didn't;t have political parties in college. It was a very close election. She lost by five votes.

Well damn. Maybe she should have organized a political party to assist with get-out-the-vote efforts.

We didn't do that in college nor would that have been allowed on campus most likely. My university wasn't very large either.

In an upset Molly Gray an assistant ag in the criminal division of the Vermont Attorney General’s office beat out Senate President Tim Ashe for the democratic nomination for the Vermont Lt. Governor. She will face Scott Milne who nearly won the Governorship in 2014 losing by only 1.2 percent.

Ilhan Omar's main challenger Antone Melton-Meaux has conceded per local media so that's that. Take a suck fascists, she'll be in the House just as long as she wants to be along with the rest of the Squad.

As for the Harris pick I can't imagine they haven't been polling the shit out of that so any electoral effect is likely to be neutral at best.

On to the debates. If I were Biden I'd want my main advisors to be experts in abnormal psychology and I'd ask them every day what I could do to push Trump over the edge. A debater? The man doesn't read, doesn't listen to advice, won't work hard and every public statement he's made lately has tortured if not defied human logic. If it were a boxing match the ref would have to stop it before the first round bell. And is Pence even going to debate Harris? His Mama won't let him be alone with a lady I thought.

There is very limited data to support the idea that the VP helps electorally. In such a hyperpartisan environment, especially one where Trump is sucking all the oxygen out of every news cycle, I highly doubt the idea that Harris being on the ticket will severely damage Biden.

History aside, I am looking forward to seeing her debate Pence.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm going with. Even Palin didn't sink McCain, she just didn't help. The financial crisis put the nail in McCain's coffin who was already suffering from how well Obama's campaign was run. VPs are a footnote.
