I saw an interview in which a reporter asked Tammy Duckworth if Biden should pick a black veep and then continued to pester her about it after she said he should pick whoever he thinks is qualified. My two biggest issues with that question are

#1. Why would Duckworth encourage Biden to pick someone other than her?

#2. Biden ought to pick whoever is qualified and not make it a race thing. Currently the top three black women in the running for veep are Kamala Harris, Stacy Abrams, and Val Demmings. Just to go over who they are

Kamala Harris: A crooked prosecutor who abused her power and put innocent men away for years, and severely punished those caught with Marijuana, while simultaneously taking bribes from Trump as he was being investigated for Trump University.

Stacy Abrams: The woman who still won't stop whining and complaining without evidence that the only reason she lost the gubernatorial election in Georgia was because of voter fraud. That's right, in her little fantasy land the only way a Democrat could lose an election in a mainly republican state is due to fraud and not because most people there aren't democrats.

Val Demmings: I'll just leave this quote from her wikipedia page here and let you decide if you want someone like her as veep.

According to a 2015 article in The Atlantic, the Orlando Police Department "has a long record of excessive-force allegations, and a lack of transparency on the subject, dating back at least as far as Demings's time as chief." A 2008 Orlando Weekly exposé described the Orlando Police Department as "a place where rogue cops operate with impunity, and there's nothing anybody who finds himself at the wrong end of their short fuse can do about it." Demings responded with an op-ed in the Orlando Sentinel, arguing that "Looking for a negative story in a police department is like looking for a prayer at church" and added that "It won't take long to find one." In the same op-ed, she cast doubt on video evidence that conflicts with officers' statements in excessive force cases, writing, "a few seconds (even of video) rarely capture the entire set of circumstances."

It needs to be either Duckworth or Warren. Duckworth is a war veteran who was awarded a purple heart and has alot of ideas about how to improve this country, and Warren is an anti establishment candidate. If Val Demmings or Kamala Harris are the veep, i really dont see why I should even go out and vote when they're as pro police reform as Trump is, but more dishonest and not so open about how little they care about justice. And if it's Abrams, Trump will have to do something fucked up like a week before the election to make me vote for Biden. My vote hinges on the veep. If Biden picks Duckworth, I'll vote for him. He picks Kamala or Demmings and he'll get to watch me and basically every black and hispanic person under age 65 stay home on election day.

How dare you go against the flaor-of-the-month narrative?!

But seriously, I've been saying this for months. The top three choices for Veep that the media keeps hammering are all incredible liabilities and eerily similar to Sarah Palin - they would torpedo an extremely senior politician's chances by adding to his vulnerabilities rather than patch them up.

Bingo. Biden needs to ignore what the extremely vocal and short-sighted group of the party (that had the lowest voter turnout of any group in the country) is demanding and instead pick a pragmatic VP. IMO picking one of the three aforementioned candidates would yield a net loss - sure, he'd bring in more people who otherwise would not have voted, but he'd turn away more dedicated voters who are uneasy about him.

And we're gonna get any progressive causes championed by Joe Biden and either a crooked cop or a crooked prosecutor?

I'll give Abrahms more of a chance since the only thing I dont like about her is the poor sportsmanship, but I'm not about to sign off on having the literal embodiment of the messed up criminal justice system in the Whitehouse. In Kamala Harris's San Francisco they probably would have already locked me up for something I didn't do, and in Val Demmings Orlando, they probably would have shot me in the back. No way.

You know, threatening the voters isn't how you should campaign. Especially being American, it's likely to have the opposite effect.

Thing is he won't even get the black vote. Biden clearly has no idea what black people in america feel or think since two of his top veep choices are literally what Black Lives Matter has been protesting against. When I see that, I feel like Biden basically thinks that black people only vote based on race and lack any critical thinking beyond that. How stupid does he think they are?

Imagine voting for a third party as a black man and then one night Joe Biden runs down on you as you leave work and pours Sammy Sosa magic cream all over you.

The Supreme Court has ruled states can require electors to back the popular vote winner in their state

We should just abolish the electoral college and introduce this incredible system where the person with the most votes wins

Yeah, we should. This supreme court decision doesn't do that.

Or, alternatively, ranked choice voting.

I think we missed out on the fun of President Gary Johnson by not having it.

I know. I was saying what I would do

Not a bad idea. Maine will have that for federal elections except President in November. Not sure about state legislature though.

Rojava Free State wrote:I saw an interview in which a reporter asked Tammy Duckworth if Biden should pick a black veep and then continued to pester her about it after she said he should pick whoever he thinks is qualified.

Abrams isn’t in the running. The other black lady from Georgia is however, mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

Actually Bidens top choices are Warren, Demmings, Harris, Bottoms, and Bass. The media has been the ones hyping up Abrams, Harris, and Demmings, while the campaign hasn’t said anything other than those five are on the short list

Actually this is a good ruling as it effectively legalizes the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact which would effectively make what happened in 2016 never again possible and all without changing the constitution
