Now you're just making an entirely different argument than before.

I was making the point Cooper needs to find a balance as he’s up for re-election in the fall

No, you're right, I would certainly rather thousands of my constituents die than I lose power, glorious power, tasty power, ALL-MIGHTY POWER HANDED TO ME BY SUCKERS! MWAHAHAHAHAHA

New trolley problem:

On one line is your chances at reelection, the trolley is barrelling towards them with full force. You can't stop the trolley but you can switch it onto a secondary track where thousands of people are tied down.

Choose wisely.

Speaking as a North Carolinian here, who voted for Cooper and will vote for him again, it would be best to do whatever it takes to minimize needless loss of life. Balance be damned.

if Cooper has two options on the table and option #2 leaves more people dying than option #1, damn right he better pick option #1, and I'm sure he will - he's an honorable man.

As governor you wouldn’t care?

Why are you assuming that none of that would happen if we didn't shut down businesses?

In the way that the alternative, letting large portions of your population die and thus crashing the economy, is much less fine.

Choice #1 - You choose a candidate who can actually win an election and is the better of the two. This candidate, Joe Biden, if faced with the train analogy, would choose option #1.

Choice #2 - Stick by your "principles" and contribute to the Option 2 candidate, Donald Trump, winning re-election. After the Trump Triumph, you can rest easily knowing that the people who died on the train tracks were sacrificed needlessly in the name of smugness.

Choose wisely.

If Trump loses but pardons himself before Biden's inauguration, will Biden have no choice but to abide by it?

It's unclear if a president can pardon themselves.

That being said, your question assumes (1) there are specific crimes Trump would be prosecuted for, and (2) Biden would direct the AG to prosecute Trump for those crimes. Both of those assumptions are questionable.
