The key to a good MD crab cake is using only the slightest amount of batter or egg to hold it together. It should basically just be chunks of crab meat. If you cannot clearly see it is big pieces of crab meat it is no good.

Absolutely. With just a little bit of spices. You do not want to overwhelm the taste of the crab. I have tried crab cakes elsewhere and they have so much bread and spices that you cannot taste the goodness of the crab. If you are ever in old town alexandria or that area I really recommend the restaurant I mentioned they have such good seafood, and the hush puppies are to die for.

Steak, Guinness and Stilton pie. All local ingredients and made the pastry myself. The pastry cow on top is a but shitty as I had less pastry than hoped afterwards.

Look good.I want the Steak and I like your Table.I think it's a big challenge to spend a whole day making pies.I don't even want to spend half an hour cooking.

It is. I come from a family of housewives who do such things.

Vancouver had some interesting restaurants where they would experiment with putting avocado spread into toast with some interesting mixes of vegetables and meats

It tastes better than it sounds

I’ll see if I can find some links and pictures

Oooh, sandwiches. What I wouldn't do for a Chick-fil-A club right now... too bad it's closed.

Not because of Covid, mind you, just because it's nearly midnight.

I haven't had crab cakes in a while.

I don't really like hush puppies, in all honesty. I can eat one or two of them, but I find them very strange to eat. They have just a bit of sweetness, a desert of dryness, a crunchy outside, and a soft inside. My taste buds don't like most of it, but it'll be a cold day in Hell before I turn one down if you offer it to me.

Is it one of those avant-garde restaurants? That sounds a lot like Vancouver would have those.

Yes.

The place is decorated like an Irish pub sort of (except without the counters).

You can order their specialty sandwiches, their waffles are delicious, and they have specialty egg dishes.

This one

If I ever drop by Vancouver again, I’ll probably give it another run

The waffles were the best I’ve tasted. And their sandwiches and egg dishes are good too. Goes well with coffee.

I hardly eat sandwiches. Too much carbs. Need to stay fit :)

Anyway, back in my carnivore days, I really liked to get a bun, put some honey on it, then a slice of salami, and then some green pesto. The flavour combination was amazing.

Sandwich? Can't get any better than a classic New Orleans Po-Boy. Especially on Leidenheimer French Bread. Below is a hot Roast Beef Po Boy with all the Debris that is required on it, and sloppy as fuck. Which is the best way to eat it.

That really doesn't look very appealing to me.

I like a nice ham and cheese sandwich myself, maybe with a bit of salad.

Do Americans really like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?

Or is that in TV shows only?

I thought that sounded crazy, like what keeps the jelly in the sandwich ?

Then I found out Americans call jam, jelly ... nothing weird about that at all.

It's got glom, it's got fruity sweetness, and you can eat it without getting either of those on your hands!
I still have one sometimes, but open so I only use one slice.

Usually though I skip the bread and the jam and just eat a spoonful of peanut butter. Glom!

I see (so it's not as widespread as often depicted)...

Personally, I can't eat it because for some reason, though I don't think it rises to the level of an actual allergic reaction, if I eat peanut butter, my lips will inflame

I prefer just bread with butter

Do I count as American? If so, I'm too German to like peanut butter, so no.

There is actually a difference between jam and jelly. Jam uses the whole fruit, jelly is made from just the juice.

Both, I think. I know where I'm from, but I love America and care about the nation as a whole more. I also have more memories here by now.
