The arson took place on May 28 - we found the body on July 20.

I'd put this more down to negligence. Or maybe the building not being properly investigated due to covid?

The damage on Lake street, well... it's not nothing, but it's not sooo extensive they couldn't have combed through it by now. I've driven through there a few times, and aside from there still being a lot of heavily decorated plywood and a very noticeable burned down Arbys and liquor store, it's not in that bad of shape.

And apparently a pawn shop?

I don’t blame them for raising the bridges. I blame them for supporting the suffering of others while insulating themselves from it.

Which ones?

That is which people behind the bridges and which polices did they support?

Yeah, it's basically this intersection:

Right there, it looks like a bomb went off. And while there was a lot of other property damage up and down Lake Street, at this point it's mostly cleaned up, and the only sign of it is particleboard and murals.

Basically the entire city council, for starters.

And their absurd approach to the violence in their city. Chicago has so much gunfire that their gunshot detection system is overwhelmed by data and can’t function.

What's the ratio to city councilmembers to non in the area sequestered by bridges?

No idea.

There’s 50 city council-persons. Most live there but not all.

Great logic, if you're not satisfied with a runner's performance break their legs until they improve.

That's my solution to government and I am surprised to see an influx of libertarians emerge over this.

81% of black people want the same amount or more policing in their neighborhoods, which breaks down to 61% wanting the police presence to stay the same and 20% saying they would like an increased police presence.

If whites now start defunding, they do it for some stupid unknown reason and not for the black people.

Wanting the same amount of policing in a given neighbourhood isn't incompatible with wanting the department to have its funding cut.

Your solution is to identify where it's under preforming and make it worse?

It’s ND. So yes.
Abolitionism in the North has leagued itself with Radical Democracy, and so the Slave Power was forced to ally itself with the Money Power; that is the great fact of the age.

Libertarianism at its finest.

Black Lives Matter organizer on looting: “That is reparations. Anything they wanted to take, they can take it because these businesses have insurance.”

I hope the movement distances itself from such elements - it’s not good for the movement to have violence and theft as a logical result of its principles.

Indeed. That's quite a fucked up thing to say and is definitely bad optics for BLM. Hopefully the higher-ups will release a statement condemning such ideas, though AFAIK it's a fairly decentralized group, which makes things like this almost inevitable.

Because mercenaries are just hired thugs with a fancy name. Might as well bring in the Bloods or the Hell's Angels as "security." It's the same shit.

Whether they do or do not distance themselves is going to be dictated by whether or not they are forced to.

I hope the movement distances itself from such elements - it’s not good for the movement to have violence and theft as a logical result of its principles.

To note though, it started of being not entirely unreasonable, but then deteriorated into nonsense-“I don’t care if someone decides to loot a Gucci or a Macy’s or a Nike store, because that makes sure that person eats,” said Ariel Atkins, a BLM organizer, according to NBC Chicago. “That makes sure that person has clothes.” “That is reparations,” Atkins continued. “Anything they wanted to take, they can take it because these businesses have insurance.”

The second part is manifestly more problematic.
