It's always a good sign when police officers (think they) make sure their body cams are off during deployment, right?

Fort Lauderdale police officers laughed and celebrated after shooting protesters with rubber bullets at a May 31 George Floyd rally in Fort Lauderdale, newly released body camera footage shows.

“Beat it, little f***er,” Detective Zachary Baro, leader of a Fort Lauderdale SWAT team unit, can be heard saying after officers shot “less lethal” projectiles at a protester. The protester was walking away after tossing a tear gas canister back at the line of police.

A few minutes later, another officer, Jamie Chatman, came up to Baro behind the police line and asked if his body camera was off. Baro replied — incorrectly — that his camera was in “stand-by” mode and not recording. The two officers then began laughing and joking about the people they had shot with rubber bullets.

“Did you see me f**k up those motherf****rs?” one of the officers said.

“I got the one f***er,” the other replied amid laughter.

And make sure to start the camera after you've fired your weapon.

Outside the parking garage at Southeast First Avenue and Second Street, officers shot dozens of rubber bullets and tossed tear gas at kneeling protesters, including LaToya Ratlieff, a non-profit grant writer, who testified before a congressional subcommittee on Monday. Detective Eliezer Ramos shot Ratlieff in the face with a rubber bullet while she was peacefully demonstrating. She suffered a fractured eye socket.

While Ramos said in his official report that he was aiming for someone behind Ratlieff who had been throwing tear gas canisters, footage taken from various angles shows a cloud of tear gas so thick it’s impossible to make out anything happening behind Ratlieff. (Footage from Ramos’ body camera started after he shot Ratlieff.)

Police maintain it was the protesters who started the violence by jumping on an unmarked police vehicle stationed at the mouth of a public parking garage around 6:50 p.m. Officer Stylianee Hayes, who was driving the black 2019 Toyota Camry, felt her “life was in imminent danger,” according to her official incident report. She said she was so worried for her safety that she did not turn on her body camera.

A nearby officer on a motorcycle who was present at the moment Hayes called for help did not make an emergency call of his own. None of the hours of body camera footage released by police, nor the more than 100 photos and videos taken by photographers on the scene and reviewed by the Herald, show anyone touching Hayes’ vehicle. Nor was Hayes’ 6:51 p.m. call for backup the emergency distress call of a terrified officer described by Maglione and dozens of officers in sworn incident reports.

See, this is why I think body cams should just always be on, and reviewable in case of the allegation of a crime.

Honestly, don't do body cams, just have drones swarming over police actions.

I don't think you'll ever have a coherent nation going forwards because with the pendulum swinging the other way against 'white' identity its just going to perpetuate itself. Majorities that become minorities usually have a grim demise. I'm not too sure how you'd do it fairly satisfactorily but I really think geographic segregation along ethnic lines should be on the table. Those whites happy to remain in black majority areas can do so and see how things turn out for them and vice versa for blacks who wish to live in white areas and accept that they will be a minority there.

There are but I think multiracial situations all have very specific historical context and in the US the ancestral memory is simply that of invasion, colonisation and slavery as far as non-white ethnicities are concerned. And as long as many of them see overt vestiges of such memories and even live in situations with 'white communities' this is just going to continue. Neither side should back down in my opinion. White people have nothing to apologise for and shouldn't have to 'make way' but black people ought not to surrender their identity either and forget what was done to them.

You also need to keep in mind the concept of race and race being a big part of politics is by and large an American concept, and while similar concepts exist in places like South Africa and Zimbabwe, most countries don’t have race politics like America does.

Exterminating crime does sound appealing to me, though using cyber men would lock in those who want to be cops into a commitment.

The police have make it abundantly clear they deserve to be defunded. What, they're gonna do a shit job and then ask for more money? It can be better spent elsewhere like on anti poverty and drug treatment programs. As for the tanks and the grenade launchers, it's time the government confiscate that shit from them and time for them to stop pretending to be soldiers.

Trump has no say on the policies of the cities within the country. That's the beauty of how our Government is setup.
