US Anti-Police Protests and Riots Thread II

I have mixed feelings about the protests. On the one hand, I agree with a lot of what they’re protesting about - in the case of Mr Floyd, there was nothing justifiable about the police treating him like that. I also think the police have too much power to do as they please without just cause to the citizenry as is. On the other hand, what is steering me away from the protestors’ cause is the number of hammer and sickle flags and graffiti I’ve been seeing at the sight of some of the protests, and the fact that a lot of the protestors seem to have genuine anti-American sentiments (vandalizing a tomb of an unknown soldier, burning American flags, etc). I love this country, I gave up everything to come here and call myself an American, and I have no desire whatsoever to be associated with any kind of a movement that confuses protesting police brutality with showing spite for our nation.

Unless ethical cops are protected from consequences or retaliation from whisleblowing, they're going to keep silent or ignore wrongdoing if they see it. The alternative is that they risk losing their career for someone else's actions. The culture of policing is that its a brotherhood clique where someone is expected to cover for another within the ranks if they broke the rules. Failing that, such a person is forced out or persecuted until they're gone.

Maybe you haven't fully adjusted to social media yet. When 20 individuals give 20 different versions of the same opinion, that looks like a movement. It's actually not: if those 20 people were standing in a park yelling and waving placards, you'd correctly identify then as a pathetic fringe group. Social media allows you to see what you choose ... but it also allows you to over-estimate your enemy.

Well they pander to the audience who likes that stuff. And the more people that are influenced by their propaganda, the wider an audience said propaganda reaches. If they can convince people that being white is bad and that whites should kill themselves just for having a certain skin color while at the same time telling people that being a different race is not bad and their life is worth living, then in their eyes they've accomplished "social justice". That's how we end up with these 'radicals'.

It's not restricting their freedom of speech, it's just ceasing to be an audience for it. Totally your right!

It's not restricting their freedom of speech, it's just ceasing to be an audience for it. Totally your right!

Unfortunately they've created an atmosphere where if you try to avoid any of their bullshit, regardless of reason, you're a racist and you're publicly crucified and destroyed. So to avoid that headache I just mute them. Even if I did unfollow them, that's one less person out of 100+ more they can reach.
