I dunno, the 60s were probably more worse and violent than this and we didn’t descend into civil war then.

As hard as may be to believe, we weren't so ideologically divided then as now, nor did we have ideologically-driven media or the internet, which allowed people to retreat further into extremism rather than get along with mainstream ideals in larger numbers than ever before. Two different ideologies, like we saw in the 60s, is one thing, but two entirely different consensus realities makes this a different game altogether.

Police violated a city ordinance requiring arrestees to be arraigned within 24 hours, and a judge upheld that.

The judge stated that "virtual parts" were slowing down proceedings. That being arraignment hearings held remotely.

If they're not arraigned they should of course be released. But it's not clear whether it's the cops fault they haven't been arraigned.

This isn't a defense for the police but merely more reasons for reform. The police are being, a bit too brutal to say the least. I know because my city was trending for the first time ever for non sport reasons because of it. The only thing I can think of, other than all police being racists, are they are breaking. Being shouted at and mocked for hours on end is wearing on a person, see what happened to Kavanaugh during the accusitions. He broke. These officers are breaking and lashing out because their humans. This shows reform is necessary, but also reminds us all of them aren't racist.

Bull. Federal law specifies 48 hours (or 72 hours if arrested on a weekend). This was a city law specifying 24 hours and the judge granted an exception based on special circumstances.

If the Federal law was in violation of the 6th, don't you think we'd have heard about that before?

So New Orleans is on the 7th Day of Protests. Everything has been peaceful so far. No rioting, property damage, etc. The only small incident was on Wednesday the 3rd when protestors tried to push their way through the police line on US Business 90 West (otherwise known as the Crescent City Connection/GNO Bridge/Mississippi River Bridge) to make their way to the Westbank Expressway and continue to march through those neighborhoods. That night, Police used teargas to force them back, and the protest broke up about 35 minutes after that incident.

I am proud of the people of my city for keeping things peaceful. I know we have had some attempts hijacking by outside influencers but the people of New Orleans have not fallen for the bait and have no looted or rioted.
