Trader Joe's Leadership were the ones who were debating on changing the names, they were never pressured until after they announced that they may do it. And I wouldn't consider "RedState" a reliable news source as it has a heavy heavy right-wing bias.

Since you aren’t American, I’d assume you’ve never been there, here’s the basic rundown: Trader Joe’s has a large variety of frozen or ready to cook food, much of which is ethnic food. They package that in ways relating to the perceived country of that food’s origin, so Chinese food is packaged as "Trader Ming’s," Japanese food is "Trader Joe San," Italian food is "Trader Giotto’s," Mexican food is "Trader Jose’s" and so on

Sounds cute actually. But I can see why they thought twice about it. Pretty clearly there was no "Ming" or "Giotto" in the history of the brand, but the presence of so many variations makes it rather obviously a marketing gimmick. Variation on their store name, it's more silly than offensive.

Using the name Butterworth, and an image allegedly of her, and a backstory to their syrup, I think add up to Trader Jo's should reach an agreement with the Butterworth heirs. A percentage of sales as though a trademark agreement. Or they could just rename the syrup. They can't just say "the reputation of that brand has nothing to do with the name or image, it goes way back but conveniently for us it doesn't go all the way back to the real Mrs Butterworth".
