As a socialist, I gotta admit, I like Ike. He's the only Republican after Teddy who wasn't garbage.
Lib-left. Antifascist, antitankie, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist (including the imperialism of non-western countries). Christian (Unitarian Universalist). Background in physics.

In the Poll, I said Lincoln. His record is untouchable by most Presidents. Between Civil War and WWII, its definitely Teddy, yet, after watching Grant on the History Channel, Grant deserves a second look. He was not nearly as bad as many of the others, and he had a strong Civil rights record. Hayes is also underrated. Very good on the Civil issues.
Post WWII, its definitely Eisenhower. Post Eisenhower, we have not had a republican who has not cheated in some way to get elected (other than Ford, but he was a special case). Nixon used the Vietnamese to get elected. Reagan messed with Carter, using the Iranian hostages to get elected (his former staffers even said they took direction from him. HW was clearly involved with that as well. He didn't do anything to stop it (according to those same staffers). Iran Contra was a mess too.
W. Bush cheated with his brother to win in 2000.
Trump...where to I even begin. Even the Russians now see that working with him may have been a mistake.

Reagan probably did more long-term damage to the Republican party than anyone else, and yet boomer conservatives still worship him and think if we vote for neocons, we can return to the 1980s.

Again, what about Taft? He’s not my favorite, and honestly, he lacked competence, but he certainly wasn’t garbage...

Obviously, Lincoln was great, but other than him, I love Teddy Roosevelt. Also, even though he isn't my favourite president, I'd gladly have a beer with George W. Bush, the guy seems likeable.

That's the mentality that people used to excuse all the horrible shit he did. Don't get me wrong, Dubya was a total bro for sure, but he should have never been president and there were some very evil people in his administration.
