5.9 million people in America were unemployed in 2019, but shouldn't the citizen come before the illegal immigrant?

Good luck convincing employers to employ citizens over illegal immigrants. The latter are easier to pay AFAIK and generally more cost effective. In theory, however, I’d usually agree, but America isn’t a command economy so that can’t exactly be enforced I think.

I know, I wish people can just amend the bill:

Non citizen comes to work, citizen comes to work, hire the citizen. You don't? Jail.

Problem is America doesn't work like that. :(

There needs to remain a distinction between legal and illegal, because there is a HUGE difference between the two. America welcomes the legals.

Using word "alien" in official documents is really unprofessional. "Illegal immigrant" - how are they gonna call them then? If there is some other alternative then okay, but they can't just say "non-citizen" as this is not same thing.
"Undocumented" is also not right, as they could have documents, just not legal right to be there.

it's obviously not going to actually do anything and seems more like a way for white liberals to feel like they're progressive so I'm not passionately for it, but it's nicer to say "non citizen" than "illegal alien" I guess

I don't like the the term alien to refer to undocumented people. We should reserve it for inhabitants of outer space, less confusing that way. :)

Non-citizen can also be used for non-citizens that are here legally so I don't think it's precise enough.

Do these morons realise that calling them "non-citizens" will make them indistinguishable from legal immigrants and even bloody tourists. If I decide to visit New York City as an international tourist (like millions of other people do) am I going be into the same catagory as people who have migrated to the USA illegally? The only thing that this will achieve is pointlessly making the lives of immigration officials pointlessly more difficult. onsidering the way that NYC has butchered its Covid-19 response, and considering the high level of crime and homeless (compared to other similar sized cities in the developed world), the people who rule over New York City need to do their fucking jobs, instead of delving down to the bottom of the barrel in order to play word police.

I'm talking to you de Blasio! You're city is currently a global epicentre of a global pandemic, there are huge protests happening all over your country, and your city is also facing the brunt of the riots, and even under the best of circamstances, your city has amongst the highest rates of crime and homelessness in America, and there are piles of piles of rat infested garbage all over the streets, and there are no public toilets anywhere in your densly populated city. Your solution to all this? Clutching at straws trying to find things to be offended by. Congragulations de Blasio, you're an embarrassment.

If you're more interested in playing word police than ensuring that your city operates properly, why the fuck did you become a mayor?

'non-citizen' sounds too vague. I'd say 'illegal immigrant' would be more accurate. 'Alien' is just weird.

Tourists are non-citizens but they haven't broken any laws.
