Heavy metal elements come from supernovae. There are not many of these minerals on earth. On the contrary, they are more abundant elsewhere in the solar system.Even liquid water has more reserves on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn.

What we do have is a very stable environment compared to most planets.

The premise is that aliens are also Aerobic organisms

Not really, the stability alone is a benefit. I don't know if there's a lot of planets with a stable atmosphere without sulphuric acid storms or similar ravaging the landscape.

1. Hope radio signals have decayed and stop all transmissions into space
2. Invest in a means of universal amplification signal as a form of MAD, there's always a bigger fish and the final option given aliens arrive is to ensure everyone knows leading to our mutual destruction if we press the button
3. Hope David Bowie in his cosmic Tesla succeeds in his mission of making all alien life realise we're the cosmic centre of cool and to destroy us will unbalance the entire universe

I think it's likely ETs exist, but I think they would avoid Earth because of the stupidity of it's inhabitants.

I doubt they've visited us. If we ever meet ETs, there will likely be war. If they find Earth first, they'll have the better tech and probably wipe us out. If we find them first and have the better tech, we'll probably try to colonize them. Peace is unlikely, considering humanity's past reactions to meeting others.

Why would we colonise them? Colonialism didn't happen just because, like some kind of natural disaster.

How do you know what is and isn't special to them though? Maybe they need uranium for some reason and only could find an ample supply here.

Or maybe they settled here because their home world is a little too crowded, but they just decided they'll deal with us when they run out of room in their seclusion zone.

Any resources, like uranium, that could be found on Earth could probably be more easily found somewhere else in space. Some nice low gravity asteroids, or a planet that doesn't have bothersome inhabitants flinging nuclear weapons at your mining ships.
