What is selective breeding?

Let's say you want a smaller breed of cat. You take one small cat, and breed it with another small cat.

The new litter of cats will tend towards being small. If you take the smallest of those, and breed it with another cat which is the smallest of another small cat litter, the process will continue.

Give it enough time, you'll have cats far smaller than was originally possible for that species of cat.

Like with the difference between Grand Danes and little Micro-Poodles.

What an excellent argument you have against deliberately not learning science!

You can learn science, just religious schools should have the option not to teach evolution.

Leaving you without an understanding of basic tools humanity uses in society. Very clever, bud. Very clever.

This argument is testing my Secularist beliefs. I should probably stop before I start believing that religion should be outright banned in schools.

I'm hoping this level of wilful ignorance is not the norm among believers though.

I don't care what's the truth to them. I care what's the truth.

The best (and in effect the truest) explanation for species as they currently are is evolution. Anything else is either outdated (and does not belong in the classroom) or unfounded assumptions (which do not belong in science). If they teach anything other than evolution as the explanation for how species as they currently are came about, they are doing their students a disservice and deserve to be closed down.

This is an extraordinarly ironic post, since "they have evidence, you just choose not to believe in it" and "non-ignorance is best" is coming from someone arguing against genuine evidence, and in favour of allowing religious schools to turn their pupils ignorant.

Any person must learn his/her religion well. School must teach religion to childeren and make them understand it well. Otherwise they gonna learn it from some clowns who decieves people for his personal/political/missionary(psychologic war/agent/spy/) benefits and corrupt the religion wit false dirty infos. And this will cause 2 problem.
1: Some childeren will be brainwashed and able to use as militants by the global powers.
2: Some childeren wil be atheist due to false teachings. Because they confused with a lot of dirty info.

To prevent this, schools must teach religion as how truly is.

"It is not possible for a nation without religion to maintain(survive) itself, Islam is a great religion so; We are the ummah of a prophet who said, "Take the knowledge(science),if it is even in China." We did not fall behind because we are İslam. When superstitions and nonsenses were added to our great religion; then we got away from true Islam and we fell into this situations."

It may not be truths to the religious person!

Public school can do whatever they want, I don't care. Religious schools can and should have the option to filter out stuff that go against their beliefs.

I have a hard time with that concept. Private religious schools have been high problematic where I live.

In once instance, an all boys catholic school had their entire football program shut down because of what the news said was rampant inappropriate sexual behaviour among the team and other students.

In another, a more personal experience, an acquaintance of mine went to an all girls catholic private school, and was unaware of the basic concepts of evolution, and even more egregiously, was it taught anything about sex education or female biology. It took her until 3rd year University to get a decent understanding of evolution, and it was only that year, at the age of 21, when she learned that penetration is required for conception.

The idea that a 21 year old woman, who went through primary school and high school, in a developed country, but does not know how her own body works or how children are produced is shocking to me, and is a severe indictment of private education.

Sir/madam, not understanding evolution is okay if you don't believe in it like me! ;)
