For the cold causing Corona virus immunity last typically 2-4 months. If this is like that we maybe just have to accept this circulating indefinitely. A new small pox if you would.

At the other end of the scale, people are still immune to SARS. Also, repeated exposure to a virus while immune tends to increase the immunity period. Between the two, there is some reason to be optimistic.

What I mean by that is it would be some mysterious disease that most people don't care about. This huge death toll was completely avoidable. 63,000 people died in America cause Trump is a dumbass. Not just because of a virus.

It could have been slowed down with a better response, but it would still be an ongoing issue that public health officials would have to stay on top of, and there would still be some people dying. Maybe fewer people, but still some.

The point is to allow hospitals to catch up to meet the needs of the virus, that way fewer people die even if there is a spike in infections. This has been elaborated to you several fucking times.

The point is less to stop people catching it, and more to stop people catching it now.

By delaying when people catch it, it means the healthcare system doesn't get overwhelmed, and also means a greater number of people who get infected will get infected after we develop/approve treatments for COVID-19, meaning they're more likely to survive.

So in theory we could do herd immunity, albeit delayed and controlled herd immunity.

That make sense but as I’ve said before we do need to strike a balance and on and off as quarantine simply isn’t feasible and some places have already started doing that.

Thank you for explaining it in a manner that isn’t mean

If the unconfirmed reports of people not being immune for long after catching it turn out to be true, herd immunity without a vaccine would be next to impossible, I think.

If people do remain immune after catching it, I still don't think we'd have herd immunity without a vaccine, but at least it wouldn't be quite so bad. Herd immunity without a vaccine would require like... 90%-ish (I think) of a population to catch and survive the disease, which would likely still add many more thousands to the death toll even if all were given full medical support.

I heard it was much less than that more like 60 or 70 percent.

Herd immunity is not something you get all at once when you reach a certain cut-off. It's something that builds up gradually. At 60%, you will have some level of herd immunity. At 90% it will be more reliable.

I think the economy will pick up again soon, as the Governors gradually open up the economy while still requiring workers and customers to wash their hands, wear masks and follow social distancing rules until further notice, I think and hope many businesses, restaurants and malls in the states who have started to gradually open up the economy are doing so, following the virus recovery guidelines, setting tables further apart and so on.

If immunity from an infection is not permanent, immunity from a vaccine would probably not be permanent either. You'd have to get revaccinated periodically.

Every few months seems kinda pointless though. At that point the vaccine is desperation and not a real solution.

At that point there is no solution.
