Disney decided to put their recording of Hamilton on Disney+ rather than release it in cinemas. Disney, a company which has been in the industry for longer than Andrew Lloyd Webber has been alive, thinks there's more money in subscription streaming services.

They paid 75 million for the rights to stream Hamilton. And as folks ditch cable Disney is looking to

Heh, upper east or west side would be 1.5k more. Chelsea use to be reasonably priced. ( for Manhattan anyway)

You can see how that happens though. The plight of live theatre is a small part of the Coronavirus topic, but it's had grossly more coverage than any other industry, like a hundred times more by market size. And it's just one poster who keeps bringing it back up.

What I keep bringing up is the return of K-12 schooling. Or at least K-6 schooling. But it's a politically divisive thing, as Trump wants it and for once in his life is right, but a broad coalition of people motivated by Trump Must Be Wrong and by common understanding that for most diseases, schools are a terrible way of spreading disease, are very much against it.

There are a million K-12 teachers in the US. There are about 80,000 live theatre people. As an industry, schooling is more than ten times bigger. But for some reason we talk endlessly about live shows and bloody Broadway ...

I agree completely with you but theatre also contributes a tremendous amount to the economy.

Also to tell college students to pay 50000 dollars for online courses at Harvard or any other university is flat out insane. It’s not worth the expense

The coursework at harvard is more rigorous than other schools.

College course loads vary quite a bit in the US. When i was in school my load was much heavier than similar folks in state institutions. (Note: I did not graduate from harvard).

Honestly movie theaters are seriously overpriced and not a particularly special experience. I'm surprised they were still around before COVID. It's much more comfortable - and cheaper - to watch movies in the comfort of my bed.

I unironically hope movie theaters never come back after COVID but unfortunately they will.

It's the major chains that are wallet gougers. Local theaters might get movies much later but you don't have to mortgage a house for admission and snacks.

Problem is there aren't really local theaters many places anymore. My hometown has one but beyond that, anywhere else I've lived have only had the major chains.
