I don't see how a vaccine will be found if antibodies don't last forever and reinfection is possible

You know when you get a cut serious enough for hospital treatment and they ask you when your last tetanus vaccination was? That isn't because they like stabbing you in the ass with a needle, it's because some vaccines wear off over time.

Speaking of which, I think I'm a couple years overdue for a tetanus shot. Thanks for reminding me

Also: the flu shot, you get the damn thing every year.

That's mostly just because they have to guess which variety of the flu will be dominant that year.

Yes, but are there new strains every year or are the strains recurring ones? Presumably the last year that this year's strain was dominant was longer ago than the vaccine lasts?

Back in October I went on a misadventure with my brother and several Albanians, looking for some cult leader they found who claimed to be the angel Gabriel. We went up to Flint and found this dude in an abandoned warehouse, and imagine my shock when it turned out these 8 shqiptarë found a homeless crackhead, thought he was actually Gabriel and began following his teachings.

Before we found him though, I stepped on two nails and they went straight through my right foot. Being the trooper I am, I spent the next 5 hours limping through the building with them looking for "Joseph," the man who claimed to be Gabriel. I'll tell you this, I was pretty disappointed that this guy wasn't even good at pretending to be Gabriel. Poor fuck must have had schizophrenia or some drug induced psychosis because he would be speaking on some cryptic shit and be like "and now I am Jesus, the light of the sun." Then more cryptic shit about God's plan and the spirits of dead babies followed by "and now I am Satan, destroyer of worlds." And all this time the Albanians sitting in front of us in the van are looking at each other all shocked and then looking at Xhuliano, talking bout "Ky nuk është Jezusi. ky njeri është a basehead. Xhuliano, çfarë është në rregull me ju? Unë nuk mund të besoj se je ky budalla, fuck you." Long story short, I had to get a tetanus shot the next day and now I'm good for like five years. My foot is better now thankfully. But it's too bad tetanus shots aren't for life.

California will close indoor restaurants, movie theaters and bars statewide as Coronavirus cases spike.

Well, so much for the reopening of the State though this is a wise move: it's getting out of control over there. Now if only Florida, Texas, and others hard hit would follow...

California's large population also doesn't really help matters. And of course Florida opened Disney World already.

It's more Disney World chose to open up itself, but Florida allowed it: DeSantis is practically the State's Trump. Of course, I doubt they'll be at full capacity: I must certainly wouldn't want to go Florida or any State experiencing a surge right now. I have grandparents down in Florida that are lucky smart and staying safe, but given a lot of youth are getting sick and hospitals are almost at max capacity in some places, I do fear we'll see some more younger people die.

They're looking at- Llamas!?

There's something within the animal's immune system that could help treat COVID-19 it appears though testing needs to be done and it could take months.

Younger people have to realize they aren't immune. They are at a lower risk of dying of the coronavirus compared to older people, but they still need to be very careful.

I don't see how a vaccine will be found if antibodies don't last forever and reinfection is possible

Adenovirus, Anthrax, Cholera, Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae type b, HPV, Influenza, Japanese Encephalitis, Measles, Meningococcal disease, Mumps, Pertussis, Pneumococcal disease, Polio, Rabies, Rotavirus, Rubella, Shingles, Smallpox, Tetanus, Tuberculosis, Typhoid, Varicella, Yellow Fever.

Zero of those (and, for that matter, zero viruses) give everlasting antibodies. All of them have the possibility of reinfection, to one degree or another. All have vaccines of one form or another.

So the 5% number sis antibodies for 5% of the population. When you measured the infected. Only ~16% did not have antibodies. These non anti-bodied individuals tended to be people who showed no symptoms or only had very mild infections.

Never mind that antibodies are only a small part of the immune response. We have T cells and B cells that target specif pathogens.

Also, they were only testing for serum antibodies, and we know that at least some people fight it off with mucosal antibodies.

Sort of. There's also the issue that influenza viruses change quickly enough that by the time you get it again, it might well be different enough to the first time that the original vaccine wouldn't work anyway.
